4 Tips for Enjoying Rainy Days at Walt Disney World

Having rain during your Walt Disney World vacation isn’t ideal, but it doesn’t have to ruin your trip. Just because it rains while you are in the Parks doesn’t mean your vacation is lost.

Be aware of these rainy-day tips to enjoy your Walt Disney World vacation even in the rain. Look at how you can prepare for rain and what fun experiences are still available throughout the four Parks, Resorts, and Disney Springs when it is raining.

Let’s see how we can have a magical time in Disney, even with some rain.

Prepare by Packing

Preparing for the rain starts before you even leave for Walt Disney World. Make sure you pack rain gear for everyone. Ponchos, rain jackets, and umbrellas will make a big difference when enjoying a Disney Park in the rain.

It doesn’t matter when you visit Walt Disney World throughout the year; there is always a chance of rain. Be prepared for that by packing with a plan in mind.

We recommend extra shoes and socks or waterproof shoes if that suits you. The streets and walkways around Disney do flood quickly. Having a way to keep your feet dry and happy is extremely important.

Being ready for the rain is the first step in having a good time at Disney during those afternoon storms.

Fun in the Disney Parks

If you happen to be in a Disney Park when it begins to rain, know what you can continue to enjoy when it comes to entertainment. Although the outdoor rides have to shut down during storms for safety, there is still great fun, even during the rain.

Guests can enjoy a variety of rides and shows during the rain at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along is always a top show for us in Walt Disney World. This is a great choice not only during the rain but all days. Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, Walt Disney Presents, and Star Wars Launch Bay are indoor options.

For rides, Guests can still enjoy Rock n Roller Coaster, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, Star Wars rides in Batuu, and Star Tours, and don’t forget Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

EPCOT

EPCOT can be slightly tricky to navigate during the rain because of how spread out everything is throughout the Park.

When there is a prolonged rain storm coming over EPCOT, we enjoy taking time to walk around the fantastic aquarium. There is so much to look at in this area that it can keep everyone entertained. You can also enjoy Turtle Talk with Crush and the Nemo-themed play area here.

Back in the World Showcase, the different countries offer a variety of other displays that are perfect for exploring during a rainy day. Rainy days are a great time to slow down and take in the fantastic details of the countries.

Navi River Journey

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Because this Park is outdoors, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, like EPCOT, can be hard to do during significant rain storms. Luckily most of the rides are indoors, such as Avatar Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey, Dinosaur, and It’s Tough to Be a Bug.

We love watching the shows during rain storms in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. These shows are top-notch; since they are longer, they are an excellent way to escape the rain.

Magic Kingdom

In Magic Kingdom, various rides are inside, allowing you to experience them. Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s a small world, and so many other favorites are inside out of the rain.

If you want a more extended escape from the rain, check out the Carousel of Progress, Hall of Presidents, Enchanted Tiki Room, and the Country Bear Jamboree.   These shows are more extended and will keep you out of the rainstorm for a more extended period.

We would prefer to enjoy the four main Disney Parks without rain, but it is good to know all the great options are available even during the rain.

Disney Resorts

If you aren’t feeling up to the Disney Parks during the rain, another great option is to enjoy your Disney Resort. Check out the activities guide so you know what is being offered when you are there. From fun arts and crafts to scavenger hunts, Disney Resorts offer a lot of fun.

Consider checking out a few different Disney Resorts by doing a skyliner or monorail crawl.

You can check out different shops, grab snacks, have drinks, or explore. Every Disney Resort is different and unique, making them fun to explore.

Disney Springs

Disney Springs

For a fun rainy-day option, head to Disney Springs. Here you can enjoy a variety of delicious food options. From Polite Pig to Homecomin there are excellent meal options.  You can also find special treats at Gideon’s Cookies: Everglaze Donuts and Amorette’s Patisserie.

Disney Springs has fun activities, from the new Drawn to Life show to bowling at Splitsville; there are great options.

Don’t forget about all the shopping that you can do throughout Disney Springs. You can find the largest Disney Store World of Disney here, and it will be everything Disney ever wanted.

Disney Springs is an excellent option if you are looking for a rainy-day activity.

Don’t get disappointed if you end up with rain during your Walt Disney World vacation. Go in prepared and ready for a good time, and you will be able to find magic.
