Magical Improvements at Walt Disney World: Changes We’re Thankful For

Change can be challenging, especially concerning something as beloved as Walt Disney World. However, several updates and additions have significantly enhanced the Disney experience since the parks reopened. These improvements have made vacations easier, more efficient, and more magical.

Here are some of the most exciting changes Disney fans continue to embrace in 2025.

1. New Security Measures: Efficiency Meets Magic

If you visited Walt Disney World in the past, you may recall the lengthy bag-check process at park entrances. Security personnel would manually inspect every bag, often leading to long lines and delays—especially when behind families with multiple bags.

Thankfully, Disney introduced the Evolv Express system across its parks, revolutionizing security. These contactless scanners allow Guests to walk through without stopping unless a flagged item is detected.

Tips for Smooth Security Checks

To avoid delays, remove and hold these items before walking through:

  • Sunglass cases
  • Large battery packs
  • Umbrellas
  • Metal water bottles

This system has made entry faster and feels more reliable and guest-friendly. It’s a fantastic improvement that sets the tone for a stress-free day of magic.

2. Cavalcades: Mini Parades with Maximum Fun

Walt Disney World’s traditional afternoon parades have always been iconic, but the introduction of cavalcades has brought an exciting spontaneity to the parks. Cavalcades are quick, scheduled mini-parades featuring beloved Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Disney princesses, and Pixar friends.

Originally designed to promote physical distancing, cavalcades have since become a permanent and much-loved feature. Guests can now use the My Disney Experience app to check the daily schedule for these fleeting but magical moments.

Our Favorite Cavalcades

  • Adventure Friends Cavalcade (Magic Kingdom): Featuring Miguel from Coco, Woody and Jessie from Toy Story, and Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, this Cavalcade boasts an impressive lineup of 30 characters.
  • Character Cavalcades Across Parks: Enjoy spontaneous appearances by fan favorites like Goofy, Pluto, and Disney princesses.

While the Festival of Fantasy parade has returned to Magic Kingdom, cavalcades offer quick, magical interactions without requiring Guests to stake out a parade spot.

3. Mobile Ordering: Dining Made Easy

Mobile ordering, a feature available through the My Disney Experience app, has become an integral part of dining at Walt Disney World. Now available at nearly all quick-service restaurants across the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs, this feature ensures a faster, more convenient dining experience.

How It Works

  1. Select your restaurant and meal time through the app.
  2. Customize your order and pre-pay.
  3. Tap “Prepare My Order” when you arrive, and your food will be ready shortly.

A recent update has made mobile ordering even more convenient for iPhone users. The My Disney Experience app now integrates with Apple’s Live Activities and Dynamic Island, allowing Guests to track the status of their mobile orders in real time from their lock screens.

Mobile ordering is a must for any Disney visit, whether you’re dining at Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom or enjoying the flavors at EPCOT’s quick-service spots.

4. Mobile Checkout: Shop Without the Wait

Shopping at Disney just became more magical with the rollout of mobile checkout at select stores. This feature allows Guests to scan and pay for items on their phones through the My Disney Experience app. Participating locations include:

  • Emporium (Magic Kingdom)
  • Creations Shop (EPCOT)
  • World of Disney (Disney Springs)

How It Works

  1. Use your phone to scan items as you shop.
  2. Complete your purchase directly in the app.
  3. Show your digital receipt to a Cast Member before exiting.

This innovative option reduces wait times and makes shopping a breeze—perfect for busy days or last-minute souvenir grabs. Discounts for Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, and Disney Visa® Cardholders are automatically applied.

5. Disney Skyliner: A Magical Way to Travel

The Disney Skyliner remains a fan-favorite mode of transportation in 2025. Connecting EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and several resorts—including Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort—the Skyliner offers stunning aerial views and a breezy, enjoyable ride.

Not just a way to get around, the Skyliner is an attraction in itself. With its efficiency and charm, it continues to be a must-try for every Disney guest.

6. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: A Fresh Perspective

2024 saw the highly anticipated transformation of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, bringing the beloved story of The Princess and the Frog to life. Guests now join Princess Tiana on an immersive journey through the bayou, complete with vibrant visuals, catchy music, and beloved characters.

This reimagining reflects Disney’s commitment to inclusivity and storytelling that resonates with all Guests.

Embracing the Magic of Change

Not every change at Walt Disney World is met with universal approval, but these updates have undoubtedly made the parks more efficient, guest-friendly, and magical. From streamlined security to mobile innovations and reimagined attractions, Disney continues to evolve in ways that enhance the guest experience.

The next time you visit, take a moment to appreciate these improvements—they’re designed to improve your magical vacation.
