Technology has become essential for a successful Walt Disney World vacation. There is so much that happens through the My Disney Experience app, MagicBands, and the Play Disney app that Guests need to be prepared when using technology during their Walt Disney World vacation.
Because technology is so important, we will take some time to break down the times throughout your Walt Disney World vacation when technology will be essential. We hope you will be ready to rock it when you arrive by sharing these with you. Or at least have an idea of how to use it.
Disney Website
The first piece of technology you will use for your Walt Disney World vacation will be the official Walt Disney World Website. This is where you will be able to book your trip. Once you have booked a Walt Disney World package (room and tickets) or purchased your tickets, you must create an account.
After making your account, you can then link your reservations. You will also need to create a profile for everyone traveling with you.
Park Reservations come next on the website. Even though you have booked Disney Park tickets, you must have a Park Reservation for each day of your ticket. This is done on the Disney website. You will select one of the four Disney Parks for each day of your tickets.
Those steps must be done on the Disney website as soon as possible.
Once those steps are taken, you can use the website to book your dining reservations and order MagicBands or MagicBand+.
Once you have navigated the website, you can move on to the next important technology. This is the My Disney Experience app.
My Disney Experience App
After linking your reservation and making those Park Reservations, you will want to download the official Disney app My Disney Experience. This app will be your lifeline during your Walt Disney World vacation. Let’s look at some of the top features of this app that you will want to make sure you can use.
Maps and Wait Times
It is through the app that Guests can see maps of the Parks, Disney Springs, and Resorts. They can help you navigate your way around the Walt Disney World Property. It is also where Guests can see important information such as wait times, show times, and even bathrooms.
Mobile Order
The app also allows Guests to mobile order at select quick service locations. This is a great feature that helps lower wait times and gives Guests a chance to be proactive when dining during the day.
Dining
If you are looking for sit-down meals, Guests can also find dining reservations and waitlist options in the app. This can be a fantastic way to snag a last-minute meal and some great table service restaurants.
Photos
We also love that you can see your on-ride photos and photographs from Disney’s amazing photographers in the app. This feature makes it sure easy to share with others during your vacation.
Find My Car
Just recently, Disney added a feature that allows Guests to help keep track of where they park at the Disney Parks. This might seem silly, but when the Magic Kingdom Parking Lot is just as big as some of the Theme Parks, it comes in handy after a long day in the Parks.
Key to the Magic
You can also use a feature in My Disney Experience to enter the Park and use your Genie+ reservations. If you don’t want to use MagicBands, this can be an easy substitution.
There are so many features on My Disney Experience. It is essential to take some time before traveling down to Walt Disney World to navigate those features. Doing so can make using the app a lot easier.
Magicbands/Magicband+
Other technology available to Guests during their Walt Disney World vacation includes MagicBands and MagicBand+. They are optional, but they have great features that can make a trip more manageable and even add some magic.
Both can open a Disney Resort hotel room door, enter the Parks, and enter the LIghtning Lanes.
Being able to charge back to your Walt Disney World Resort room is another feature offered by both. This can be extremely helpful when ordering snacks, purchasing souvenirs and even paying at a table service restaurant.
What sets them apart is that MagicBand+ has more interactive options. This upgraded version interacts with the golden statues around the Disney Parks. It also interacts with the evening shows of Harmonious and Disney’s Enchantment. Finally, MagicBand+ interacts in various ways in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Even though these are options, if you stay at a Walt Disney World Resort, you can purchase them ahead of time for a discount. They are fun to have throughout the vacation.
Play Disney App
The final technology we are going to share is the Play Disney app. This is a separate app from the My Disney Experience app. MDE is more about navigating the magic. Play Disney is more about being entertained while in the magic.
The app has a variety of games and trivia options connected to Guests’ locations in the Parks. This is a great app to have while waiting in line. It can help keep everyone engaged and in the Disney magic.
