Dos and Don’ts For Using the My Disney Experience App

My Disney Experience is the official mobile app for Walt Disney World.  This app provides Guests with so much information that it can be a lot to figure out.  To help you get familiar with the app and know what you should and shouldn’t do, we are going to dive into some dos and don’ts.  We hope that these will help you be more comfortable with the app and be able to use it throughout your Walt Disney World trip with less stress.

My Disney Experience App

Do Make An Account

The first step you want to take after booking a Walt Disney World vacation is to make your free My Disney Experience account.  You can head HERE to do so.  Keep in mind, if you already have an account with companies such as ESPN or Disney+, those accounts are linked so if you are using the same email, the password would also be the same for your My Disney Experience account.

Do Link Those Reservations

As soon as you have your account made, make sure you link your reservations.  This might be your Disney vacation package or your ticket number if you ordered tickets only.  Linking your reservations is important as it will allow you to be able to do a lot of the other important pieces.

Don’t Forget To Add Families/Friends

In order to link everyone together, you will need to add friends and families into your My Disney Experience account.  If this is your first family trip, you will need to create a profile for them first and then you can connect that profile to the reservation and tickets.

If you have family members not on your reservation but are traveling at the same time, you are able to link with them as well.  This will allow you to be connected while on vacation when it comes to dining and if you choose to use Genie+.

Don’t Forget to Make Park Passes

A new step that you might forget is making Park Passes.  Disney is requiring all Guests to have a park pass reservation to one of the four Disney Parks each day of their ticket.  Guests are not allowed into a Theme Park without these so make sure you do so as soon as you can.  These passes do fill up so the sooner you get on the My Disney Experience app to make them the better.

Do Check Your Information

You will want to take time to make sure that your address and credit information is correct and updated.  Disney will use this information for charging to your room, mobile order and throughout the Disney Parks and Resorts.  By having it set up beforehand, you can be more prepared when you arrive.

Don’t Wait Until You Arrive

There is so much information found within the My Disney Experience app that you don’t want to wait to get familiar with it until you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort.  Take some time to practice looking at wait times, finding dining and learning about your resort within the app before you even leave home.

By taking some time to learn the app before you arrive, once you walk through the gates at Walt Disney World you will be more prepared and ready to conquer the day.

Do Research Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lanes

Disney added a major feature to the My Disney Experience App in October.  Disney Genie was a new feature that provides Guests with suggested touring plans, projected wait times and a lot more.

Along with this feature was the addition of the paid option Genie+.  Genie+ is $15 per person/day and gives Guests access to the Lightning Lanes to over 40 attractions at the four Disney Parks.

As this is a big investment, make sure you take some time to figure out what Genie+ is all about.  We have key dates in 2022 we think Genie+ will be important HERE as well as how you can purchase it HERE.

If you want to know what rides to prioritize, we have that HERE as well as the good, bad and ugly we discovered HERE when using it.

Take some time to learn about Genie+ and everything that goes with it so you can determine if it is something you want to invest in for your Disney vacation as well as how to use it once you do invest in it.

Do Use Mobile Ordering

A major tip that you will want to make sure you know how to do on the app is mobile order.  This system allows Guests to schedule a pick up time for quick service locations throughout the Walt Disney World Property.

Guests choose a dining location, a time they want to eat and then place their order.  Orders are able to be modified and adjusted up until the pick up window starts.  Once that window has started, Guests can choose “prepare my order” and then Cast Members will begin making their food.

This is a huge time saver in the Disney Parks.  Guests can avoid waiting in line to order by using this feature within the My Disney Experience app.

Don’t Be Scared

The app can be overwhelming but don’t be afraid to mess around within the app to see everything that it has to offer.  You can find bathrooms, see bus arrival times as well as wait times and show times all in the app for the Disney Park you are visiting.

Taking some time to look around and learn about it before heading down can make a big difference.

My Disney Experience is a huge part of a Walt Disney World vacation so make sure to follow these dos and don’ts so you get the most of the app during your vacation.
