My Disney Experience (MDE) is Disney’s official app for Walt Disney World. This app has always been helpful when visiting a Disney Theme; however, now it has become essential to a successful Disney vacation.
My Disney Experience app allows Guests to enter the Theme Parks, make dining reservations, see wait times, Park hours, get information about your Resort hotel and so much more. Guests can even get into a Theme Park using Disney MagicMobile
We are going to dive into some of the features within the app that we think are essential to a successful Walt Disney World vacation.
Throughout the Walt Disney World Resort Property, Guests are being asked to mobile order when it comes to getting food at quick service locations.
Although this feature was being offered prior to the 2020 shut down, upon reopening, Disney has used mobile ordering as a way to monitor crowds in the dining locations.
Mobile ordering allows Guests to go into MDE, select a dining location of choice, such as Woody’s Lunch Box in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, choose an available time slot and then place their food order.
Once it is their selected time, Guests can then choose “Prepare My Order” in the app and their food will be ready shortly.
Because this is highly recommended by Disney to use, it is a key feature within MDE that Guests heading down to Walt Disney World on vacation need to be aware of and ready to use.
Mobile Ordering is found in multiple locations, which you can see within the app. The plus sign as well as the three lines on the right of the app both give you access to the Mobile Order option.
The great thing about Mobile Ordering is that you can practice before arriving at Walt Disney World, allowing you to get the hang of it before you have a food meltdown in the middle of Magic Kingdom.
Now you can also see walk-up wait times as some of Disney’s table service locations. This is a nice feature if you weren’t able to get your advance dining reservation as you can see if you can get a last minute spot that day.
Another great feature within My Disney Experience is all the maps. No matter where you are on Walt Disney World Property, a Theme Park, Disney Springs or a Disney Resort, MDE has a map of that area.
Maps are found by choosing the location button on the main bar of the app. It will pull up your location in Walt Disney World, or default to Magic Kingdom if you are at home checking it out.
We really like being able to see these from home as we begin to figure out where everything is for our vacation, but it becomes really helpful as we navigate a Disney Park or a Disney Resort.
The great part about the map feature, is you can choose from a variety of selections from a drop down menu to choose what is highlighted on your map.
The default selection is wait times, but you can also choose options such as bathrooms (don’t laugh this can be extremely helpful), entertainment, dining and a few other options.
Very much like mobile ordering, you can check out this feature within MDE from the comfort of your house in order to get familiar with all it has to offer.
One of the newest features to be added to My Disney Experience is Disney Genie. This is a new, free planning tool found within the app. Disney Genie provides Guests with personalized itineraries, tips and suggestions for their day in a Disney Park.
In order for Disney Genie to provide these suggestions, Guests should set up their favorites, interests and priorities prior to their vacation. By doing this, Disney Genie provides the best suggestions for your Disney day.
Disney Genie allows Guests to provide information such as does the group prefer thrill rides, do they want to see princesses, height restrictions, any disability access information you might have.
By putting this information into the system, Disney Genie will then create a personalized itinerary which will appear in the “My Day” tab.
Disney Genie is a new feature that really has a lot to offer. We do suggest taking some time to get familiar with it.
Disney Genie Tips
Next to Disney Genie in the app will be a Tip Board. This feature provides Guests with suggested things to do from food to rides and entertainment.
Guests are able to remove suggestions if they aren’t interested in what Disney Genie has to offer.
This is a great feature for experiencing something you might not have originally planned on doing.
As we have talked about before, Genie+ is a new paid feature that Guests can add to their Disney Genie. For $15/person/day, by purchasing Genie+ Guests receive access to over 40 Lightning Lanes throughout the Disney Parks allowing them to have lower wait times.
It is through the app that Guests access this feature throughout their Walt Disney World vacation.
If Guests haven’t bought Genie+ prior to their vacation, they can do so through MDE. Once it has been paid for, MDE is where you will be making your selections.
Based on what rides you have selected in your favorites as we talked about previously, you will be able to see the rides with Genie+ availability.
Once you select the ride, you are given the next available time which you will see listed. This is different from the previous Disney Fastpass+ service where you would choose your time to ride.
You can continue to choose more selections throughout the day as you use them in MDE. If you choose to add Genie+ to your ticket, MDE is going to be extremely important to using it successfully.
My Disney Experience has so much to offer Guests traveling to Walt Disney World. From basic information such as maps and wait times, to interactive features like mobile ordering and Genie+.
