Disney World Character Loses Toe in Front of Guests

Last weekend, Walt Disney World Resort guests were horrified when they noticed one of the Central Florida theme parks’ most beloved characters, Stitch, was missing a toe.
Disney characters bring unique magic to Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Meet-and-greets, parades, and other performances allow guests of all ages to step into their favorite stories. There’s a reason guests buy Mickey Mouse plushies and t-shirts instead of character-free logo merchandise!

No Walt Disney World Resort characters are as ubiquitous as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto–though Disney Princesses like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty come close. Yet, over the last few decades, an extraterrestrial mischief-maker has become as tied to the Central Florida Disney parks as the Mouse himself.
The world met the mischievous yet lovable Stitch (Chris Sanders) in 2002’s Lilo & Stitch. One of the most successful Walt Disney Animation Studios films of the 2000s, animators later made a television series and multiple sequels, including Stitch! The Movie (2003), Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch (2005), and Leroy and Stitch (2006). Walt Disney Studios is currently producing a live-action remake.
Stitch took over Walt Disney World Resort, even teepeeing Cinderella Castle for the opening of Stitch’s Great Escape at Magic Kingdom Park in 2004. Though the terrifying attraction is permanently closed, its beloved alien still adorns some of the most popular Disney Park merchandise.

The animated character is even more popular online. Every month in 2024, the Disney Store releases a new set of limited-edition Stitch and Angel merchandise in a series called “Stitch Attacks Snacks.”
Still, even for one of its most popular characters, the Disney merchandise department sometimes misses the mark. Redditor u/umdtortuga recently purchased a puzzling Walt Disney World Resort-exclusive Stitch t-shirt:
Stitch with 7 Toes?
Stitch only has three toes on his right foot and four on his left–he should have four on both feet.
Another Disney Parks fan noticed this wasn’t the first time The Walt Disney Company greenlit incorrect Lilo & Stitch merchandise. They linked this tapestry from BoxLunch. Even though it’s an entirely different design, the image depicts Stitch with four toes on one foot and three on the other.

Fans were disappointed by the oversight.
“I saw a TikTok accusing Disney of using AI for some of their shirt designs,” said u/Tui717. “This does not help Disney’s case.”
“If only they used AI to make actual desirable merch,” u/austinalexan replied.

Walt Disney World Resort still sells the incorrect t-shirt. Its merchandise department hasn’t commented publicly on the mishap.
