Guests Evacuated from Flooded Disney World Ride

From time to time, every ride at Walt Disney World will shut down for any number of reasons. It could be something as benign as a guest vomiting on the ride or something as nefarious as a guest jumping off the ride to take a look around.

Then, there are the times when Mother Nature intervenes, and rain shuts down the rides and attractions. With it being Central Florida, some passing thunderstorms are expected in the area.

It goes without saying that outdoor rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom or Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom will have to shut down if there is driving rain in Central Florida. But guests have a certain expectation that indoor rides aren’t necessarily going to flood, especially when the weather is perfect.

However, guests heading to EPCOT on Easter weekend were greeted by an event that was expected at Disney Park. EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth was shut down, and water was flooding out of the ride.

Walt Disney World Resort guests took to X (formerly Twitter) to share videos of the water flooding out of the tiles on Spaceship Earth. The videos also show Disney Park security and cast members keeping guests from the ride. The videos claimed that guests were evacuated from the ride vehicles.

It is unclear exactly why Spaceship Earth has water flooding out of it. The weather in Central Florida has been great recently, and for Easter Sunday, it is expected to be sunny and in the 80s.

Easter Sunday and Easter Weekend are some of the busiest days at Walt Disney World, only slightly behind Christmas and New Year’s Day. After a slow week, attendance at Disney World has steadily picked up over the last week, and this week is expected to be the busiest of Spring Break as many schools in the northeast and midwest have their spring breaks.

Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Spaceship Earth was supposed to undergo a significant renovation, including new ride vehicles and a storyline. However, after Disney World reopened, Disney decided to scrap the project and focused on other updates to EPCOT, including Moana’s Journey of Water.

It appears that the opening day EPCOT attraction needs some updating after flooding and shutdown on one of the year’s busiest days.
