Major Planning Mistakes You’re Making for Your 2022 Disney Trip

There is a lot that goes into planning a Walt Disney World vacation.  It seems like more and more is getting added to the planning each time we go.  If you are planning on heading down for a Disney vacation in 2022, we have some major planning mistakes you might be making.

Take a look at these major mistakes to make sure you are aware of them and know how to avoid them as you plan your Walt Disney World vacation for 2022.

Waiting on Reservations

Walt Disney World is in high demand right now.  Because of this, reservations are going quickly.  If you know you are planning on heading down in 2022, don’t wait to make those Resort reservations.

Even with all of the Disney Resorts opened, the availability is extremely limited.  By booking early, you are able to get a better option of room selection as well as the cheapest pricing.

If you wait too long to book, your desired Resort category (value, moderate, deluxe) might not be available causing you to adjust your plans.

After you book your Resort, this doesn’t mean that you are done.  Since its reopening, Disney is requiring Guests to book Park Passes as well.  This means that once Guests have linked their Walt Disney World tickets to their My Disney Experience account, they will be able to choose which of the four Theme Parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios) they’d like to visit each day.

Even with higher capacity, we can still see these Park Passes book up for specific Parks.  Disney’s Hollywood Studios have become extremely difficult to get since the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

With the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, we have seen EPCOT book up quickly.

Don’t wait on making these reservations.  Get onto your My Disney Experience account and make sure that you do so early.  This will allow you the best chance of getting a Park Reservation for the Disney Park of your choice.

Finally, don’t sleep on the 60-day mark when it comes to making dining reservations.  Guests that wish to enjoy a table-service meal can make those reservations starting at 60-days prior to check-in.

Although many might think two months is too far out, there are a lot of table service restaurants throughout the Walt Disney World Resort that fills up two months ahead of time.

If you are wanting a specific experience, you will want to make sure that you are logged on and ready within 60 days.

Not Knowing What is New

Walt Disney World seems to be constantly opening new experiences for Guests.  Because of this, you need to make sure you are keeping up.  A big mistake is showing up in Walt Disney World and not knowing what is new and open because you can really miss out.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the newest ride to open in Walt Disney World.  Found in EPCOT, this thrilling coaster just opened this month.  Guests are raving about how immersive, fun, and exciting it truly is.

Make sure you take some time to learn about how you can ride this new experience.  We have broken down what you need to know HERE so you can be prepared and ready for fun.  Make sure you understand what steps you need to take in order to ride it during your vacation.

Also in EPCOT is Remy’s Ratotolulie Adventure.  This highly anticipated family ride finally started welcoming Guests back in October 2021 for the 50th-anniversary celebration.

Like with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, make sure you know what you are able to ride Remy’s during your trip.  Take some time to read up on the current option as they are changing.

No matter when you plan to head down in 2022, we can assure you that there will be new snacks available.  Walt Disney World is constantly putting out new and delicious snacks throughout the Walt Disney World Resort.

Don’t miss out on any of these delicious treats when you are down.  Keep up with what is being offered and where you can find them.

Knowing what is new and available is key to planning.  Don’t make the mistake of not knowing what is opened before you head down.  This could cause you to miss out.

Not Knowing What Isn’t Opened

There are still some big experiences that we are waiting on to open or reopen in Walt Disney World.  Many of these experiences do not have specific dates yet.  As you are planning a 2022 vacation, don’t make the mistake of assuming something will be opened when you are visiting.

The first major ride we continue to wait for is Tron Lightcyle Run.  Magic Kingdom is still waiting for this highly anticipated coaster to open.  Even though we can see great progress, we are still waiting for an official announcement from Disney on an opening date.

Both Fantasmic and the new Finding Nemo show in Disney’s Animal Kingdom have been given a 2022 reopening date, but we aren’t sure of when this might be.  We were hopeful that both would be back this summer, but we continue to wait and see.

Over in Toy Story Land, we are waiting for the new Roundup Rodeo BBQ to open.  This new table service location will be a great addition to this land and give Guests another way to be immersed in Andy’s Backyard.

As you are planning for your Walt Disney World vacation, make sure you know what might not be opened yet when you visit.  You don’t want to plan a whole vacation hoping to experience something that isn’t going to be available.

Not Understanding Genie+

One of the new steps that Guests need to be aware of when planning a trip to Walt Disney World is Genie+.  This is part of the Disney Genie feature found within the My Disney Experience app.

Genie+ is the paid feature that Guests can choose to add to their Disney tickets at $15/person/day.  By purchasing this feature, Guests are then able to use the Lightning Lane at over 40 experiences throughout the four Disney Parks.

If you choose to add this feature to your package, you need to make sure you understand how it works.  Take time to research it (we have a lot of information on How to Disney).  Learn about how to purchase it, how to book your reservations and all the dos and don’ts that it has to offer.

A big mistake is adding this and not knowing how it actually works.  Take time to learn about Genie+ and all it has to offer before your trip so you can get the most out of it while you are in the Disney Parks.

These are some of the major planning mistakes you don’t want to make as you get ready for your 2022 Walt Disney World vacation.  We hope bringing them to your attention ahead of time will help you be more prepared and able to have a magical trip to Walt Disney World.
