EPCOT
After 15 Years, Could EPCOT Be Bringing Back a Disney Favorite?

EPCOT has long been a park of transformation, evolving from its original theme of human achievement into a hub for Disney stories and characters. With recent additions like the thrilling Guardians of the Galaxy – Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the park has embraced a more character-driven approach. Now, an unconfirmed announcement has set fans abuzz over a possible return of a much-loved figure from Disney’s past.
The Germany Pavilion at EPCOT, known for its charming shops and authentic ambiance, is the latest location to hint at something special this summer. According to Disney reporter Scott Gustin, a V.I.PASSHOLDER Summer Days character greeting will take place at Der Teddybar from June 9 through July 31, 2025, daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What makes this news particularly intriguing is the absence of a named character. Given the setting—a teddy bear-themed shop—fans are speculating this could mark the return of Duffy the Disney Bear, a character with a unique history at Walt Disney World.
Duffy’s History and Fan Hopes for a Comeback
Duffy first appeared in 2002 as “the Disney Bear” at the Once Upon a Toy shop in what was then known as Downtown Disney. However, it wasn’t until his reinvention at Tokyo DisneySea, where he gained a backstory and a sailor outfit, that Duffy soared in popularity. Today, he ranks among the most beloved Disney characters in Asia, joined by a cast of friends including ShellieMay, StellaLou, and LinaBell.
Though introduced at EPCOT in 2010, Duffy never reached the same heights in the U.S. and was gradually phased out. Nevertheless, his fanbase has grown steadily, yearning for his return. Small appearances at events like Disney’s Jollywood Nights and Disneyland’s 70th anniversary cavalcade have kept hopes alive.

As the mystery character event approaches, fans are vocal online. “Duffy?” one user asked on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Is that you bestie?” Another added, “If it’s Duffy, I’m going to be so happy. Been wanting him to come back for years.”
Others remain cautious, suggesting the character might instead be one of the Seven Dwarfs, whose story aligns more directly with EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion. Regardless, the excitement highlights the demand for beloved characters that connect with guests on a personal level.

Whether Duffy will officially return or another character will take the spotlight, one thing is clear: Disney fans are eager for fresh experiences at EPCOT that also honor the park’s evolving history. And if the rumors are true, this summer could mark a significant moment in the park’s ongoing transformation.
Even if it isn’t Duffy, one thing’s clear — the world is ready for more of the beloved bear. Ball’s in your court, Disney.
