Last week, guests riding the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park got more than they bargained for when their spooky journey turned into a series of stops and starts. While the attraction is famous for its eerie atmosphere and playful haunts, the repeated interruptions left some riders feeling less enchanted.
A Spooky Ride Full of Stops
TikTok user Amanda (@disneymadmum) shared a video of her experience aboard the Haunted Mansion, which she described as a “long ride” due to technical interruptions.
“We’ve moved about six feet,” Amanda said in the TikTok. “It could be a long ride!”

Amanda reported that the ride halted five times during her visit, making what should have been a seven-and-a-half-minute adventure much longer.
In the video, riders hear the Ghost Host’s automatic announcement: “We are being unavoidably detained by a raucous ghost. Kindly remain seated in your Doom Buggys. We will continue our journey in just a moment.”
Why Does the Haunted Mansion Stop?
It’s unclear what caused the delays on Amanda’s ride, as Walt Disney World Resort rarely shares specific reasons for attraction interruptions. However, Omnimover-style attractions like Haunted Mansion are designed to stop temporarily to accommodate guests with mobility issues. These brief halts allow cast members to safely assist riders using wheelchairs or scooters onto the slow-moving Doom Buggies.
Other Walt Disney World Resort attractions, including Spaceship Earth and Under the Sea—Journey of the Little Mermaid, use the same system and occasionally experience similar pauses.
A Timeless Disney Classic
Despite the interruptions, the Haunted Mansion remains one of Disney’s most iconic and beloved attractions. Originally conceived as a walkthrough “museum of the weird” for Disneyland Park, the ride was reimagined as a continuously moving attraction featuring the innovative Omnimover system. Versions of the Haunted Mansion can now be found at Magic Kingdom Park, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris, with unique interpretations like Phantom Manor and Mystic Manor in other Disney Parks around the globe.
