Disney Dreams and Dramas: My Top Unforgettable Moments

I’m a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club Member, and runDisney participant, and I adore all things Mickey Mouse. For multiple years (before I was old enough to remember), Disney has been part of my life. And while Disney has changed repeatedly, year after year, one thing remains… the memories.
You know the memories I’m talking about, right? Those magical moments during a visit seem imprinted on your Disney-loving soul. And while ideal experiences are positive, sometimes the dreams become dramas.
Let’s dive into the dreams and the drama with our top unforgettable Disney moments.
First, the Dreams:
VIP Access Inside EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth
EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth is one of the most iconic Disney park landmarks. The massive “golf ball” (as my kids call it) once featured a VIP lounge during Siemens’ sponsorship, which ended in 2017. We were fortunate enough to have access to this lounge, offering free beverages, air conditioning, and lounge chairs—all with a stunning view of the former Fountain of Nations in what is now World Celebration.
Skipping the line for the Spaceship Earth attraction made this experience even more magical.
Flag Family at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort
In years past, guests at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort could sign up to be the “Flag Family” for the day. Our family was lucky to participate in this tradition, helping a cast member raise the flags atop the resort. Looking out over the breathtaking views of Walt Disney World’s sprawling property was a memory we’ll never forget. While this experience is no longer available, it remains a cherished part of our Disney history.

Mickey and Minnie Surprise Hugs
One early morning, our family had a breakfast reservation at Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom. As we approached Cinderella Castle, we were surprised to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse exiting the Castle for what appeared to be a photo shoot. Instead of hurrying by, they stopped to hug everyone in our 8-person party. That brief moment with Mickey and Minnie—just for us—remains one of the most magical memories of all.
Riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
The reimagining of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was completed in 2024, and it’s quickly become a family favorite. The story, music, and updated animatronics bring to life the magic of “The Princess and the Frog” (2009) in an unforgettable way. Riding it for the first time after its grand opening was an emotional and exciting experience, showcasing Disney’s commitment to storytelling and innovation.
Riding in Walt’s Vehicle at Disneyland
As a child, rides like Dumbo the Flying Elephant or the Mad Tea Party may have been the highlight of my Disney experience. But as a self-proclaimed “Disney adult,” one of my most memorable moments was riding in Walt’s car at Disneyland Park—the last Main Street, U.S.A. vehicle he was pictured in. The history and nostalgia surrounding that ride made it feel like a dream come true.
Alas, the Dramas:
Family Separation
A family trip can be bittersweet when someone is missing. During one visit, we felt the absence of a close family member experiencing a difficult separation. Yet, even on that challenging trip, Disney worked its magic. That visit marked the only time our family pulled the sword out of the stone in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. It was as if Disney knew we needed a little extra pixie dust that day.
Miscarriages and Broken Hearts
I’m blessed with two healthy children who have experienced Disney more times than they can count. But Disney has also been a place of healing for our family. After experiencing the heartbreak of miscarriages, being in the most magical place on earth offered moments of comfort. Cast Members, especially beloved characters like Mickey and Pluto, seemed to sense when we needed a little extra kindness, holding onto hugs just a bit longer than usual.
Scarring My Grandmother for Life
On a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I thought asking my grandmother to hold a rubber snake while she was distracted would be funny. Her reaction—complete with a scream and the snake being flung across the gift shop—is a memory that still makes our family laugh. Sorry, Grandma (and the Cast Members who had to deal with the commotion)!
Getting Caught in the Rain
If you’ve been to Florida, you know sudden rain showers are inevitable. During one particularly memorable visit, we were caught in a torrential downpour while riding the tram. Rain blew in from every direction, soaking us completely. My daughter and I found the situation hilarious, while my husband and son… not so much. It’s a memory we still laugh about, even if it wasn’t so funny then.

Dreams and Dramas
While I’ve only listed a few dreams and dramas, the list could continue. The takeaway from our many Disney trips is that whether it’s a day trip, a two-week vacation, or simply a quick meal, there will always be those unforgettable moments.
I miss the free FastPass+, Disney’s Magical Express, and the original Disney Dining Plan. Like many Disney fans, I’ve experienced my share of frustrations. But at the end of the day, when I think about Disney, the not-so-great dramas fade away. Instead, I’m left with a treasure trove of magical memories that make Disney feel like home.
