Disney Guests Alerted to Major Vacation Changes: Hundreds Affected

Disney Cruise Line has notified hundreds of guests about an itinerary change for the May 23, 2026, sailing of its newest ship, the Disney Treasure. The update affects the ship’s 7-night Eastern Caribbean voyage, adjusting the order of port visits — a shift that has left some passengers rethinking their vacation plans.

Originally, the Disney Treasure was scheduled to spend two days at sea after departing from Port Canaveral, followed by stops in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and then St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. According to a notice sent to guests, the ship will now visit St. Thomas first on May 26, with Tortola moved to May 27. The final sea day and the stop at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, remain unchanged.

While Disney Cruise Line has not provided a direct explanation for the switch, port congestion is a likely factor. Cruise schedules often shift well in advance to accommodate changes in port availability and avoid overcrowding.

Notably, the Disney Treasure was the only ship scheduled to dock in Tortola on May 26, but the new date of May 27 now coincides with the arrival of Norwegian Luna. This suggests the schedule in St. Thomas may have been too packed for Disney to deliver its signature guest experience.

Port congestion isn’t an uncommon issue in the cruise industry, especially when it comes to high-demand destinations in the Caribbean. Cruise lines often have to coordinate their schedules with local port authorities to ensure smooth operations, balancing guest experience with logistical realities.

This itinerary adjustment follows a series of recent changes to Disney Cruise Line voyages. In November 2023, the cruise line altered multiple vacations due to ongoing unrest in New Caledonia, impacting sailings in the South Pacific.

More recently, several Puerto Rico sailings were modified after the port in San Juan faced availability issues. These shifts highlight the complexities of cruise planning, where political, logistical, and environmental factors can all play a role in shaping a ship’s journey.

Despite these disruptions, Disney Cruise Line maintains its reputation for blending immersive storytelling, themed entertainment, and top-tier hospitality. The Disney Treasure is part of Disney’s Wish-class fleet and promises to continue this tradition. The ship features Disney’s signature character experiences, themed dining inspired by beloved franchises like Coco, and world-class entertainment tailored to both families and adult travelers.

The Disney Treasure’s Eastern Caribbean itinerary is a sought-after voyage, offering guests the chance to explore pristine beaches, vibrant island cultures, and the renowned Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island retreat. For many, the shift in port visits may be a minor adjustment, but it underscores the ever-evolving nature of cruise itineraries.

Guests impacted by the latest itinerary update have been directly notified by Disney Cruise Line. Those with questions about their travel plans are encouraged to contact Disney Cruise Line’s guest services for further assistance.
