8 Essential Things to Pack For a Summer Trip to Disney

Temperatures are heating up, and summer is around the corner. As we all start to think about the summer months and all the wonderful vacations, we hope to take; we also need to consider what items will make these trips manageable.

Everyone knows that a summer trip to Walt Disney World means heat and humidity. For those that are planning on heading down during this period, there are a few essential times that you will want to make sure you pack.

These items will help you have a less stressful, more magical trip to Walt Disney World.

Rain Gear

Even though summer months are known for the heat and humidity, rain is also a significant factor. When traveling during the summer, you must ensure you have rain gear.

Consider purchasing rain jackets, ponchos, or umbrellas that can easily be thrown into your Park bag. These are quick and easy to use and can allow you to keep on enjoying the magic at the Park.

Having rain gear packed can make a big difference during those summer storms.

Shoes

Another major decision to make is what shoes you are going to pack. You want good, comfortable walking shoes and some that will do well in the rain during the summer months.

Since you will walk eight or more miles daily, you will want shoes to keep your feet happy. We often recommend a backup pair. By having a backup pair, you can easily switch them out if they get wet or cause blisters.

We hate having wet shoes and socks, so having a backup pair or even a couple of waterproof shoes be a game changer during rainy days.

Finally, don’t pack brand-new shoes. Take time to break in shoes to ensure they are ready for all the Disney miles.

Breathable Clothing

We know you want everyone to have matching t-shirts and look cute, but ensure everyone is comfortable. Light and breathable clothing is critical during the summer months.

Look into dry-fit clothing that allows everyone to remain comfortable as you walk around. You won’t want to have dark, heavy shirts, jeans, or pants during the summer months.

If you get cold quickly, we recommend putting a light layer on. These can be great during a meal, while watching a show, or even on the Disney bus. These areas get cold (which is excellent during the summer) but can be a drastic change for your body.

Sunscreen

Make sure that you pack sunscreen and a lot of it. The Florida sun is intense, and being able to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day will keep you safe.

Ensure you have some specifically for your face, and don’t forget chapstick with SPF included. The heat and humidity can do numbers on your face and lips.

If you need sunscreen, know that Disney gift shops sell it. Although it will be higher, you won’t have to worry about burning. Try to plan and bring your own. This ensures your brand and style will work for your family.

Sun Protection

Not only do you need to bring sunscreen, but you also need to make sure you bring other protection from the sun. There are a few other items that can help keep you protected from those UV rays.

Make sure that you have chapstick with SPF. The combination of heat, humidity, and sweating can lead to chapped lips. Keep them protected with good chapstick.

You will also want to bring a hat and sunglasses to protect your head, face, and eyes from UV rays. Hats are extremely important for those little ones as they are super helpful in keeping them a little bit more shaded.

These few items can make a big difference when managing those rays.

Cooling Towels

These might seem silly or unnecessary, but cooling towels are fantastic during summer. You can wrap these around your neck, put them on your head, or lay them on a little one. The combination of water and cooling elements helps your body lower its temperature.

You can get them wet again to reactivate the cooling when they dry out.

Fans

Many of the queues at Walt Disney World are outside, meaning you are constantly standing in the sun. Because they are outside, these areas often don’t have a lot of air movement. This can be extremely difficult during the heat of the day. Having a personal fan lets you keep the air moving around you. Look into one that recharges, so you don’t have to worry about extra batteries.

All the Water

Finally, hydration is vital during a Disney vacation and becomes even more critical during summer.

Consider bringing your refillable water bottle along with you. You can get free water to add to it at quick-service locations and the refill stations throughout the Parks. Water delivery to your Walt Disney World Resort hotel is also a good option. This saves you money in the Park but also ensures everyone has water.

Hydration packs are also a fantastic option for the hot and humid months. Most of us aren’t used to these conditions, and adding too much walking makes our bodies struggle to stay hydrated. Hydration supplements can help.

Those are the eight essential items to pack for your trip to Walt Disney World this summer. These will help you have a less stressful, more manageable experience even with the heat and humidity.
