5 To Skip, 5 Not To Miss: Breaking Down Magic Kingdom Attractions

We previously looked at five rides to skip and five rides not to miss throughout all of Walt Disney World Resort.  We thought it would be fun to break this down by Disney Park.  If we were just in Magic Kingdom, which five rides would we skip and which five would make sure not to miss during our visit.

We are going to start with the rides in Magic Kingdom that we would suggest skipping during your visit to the iconic Theme Park.  This doesn’t mean that these rides are awful or shouldn’t be experienced at all, but they are ones that when we have limited time, we find ourselves passing by for other options.

AStro Orbiter
Astro Orbiter

Astro Orbiter- Tomorrowland

The first ride we often skip in Magic Kingdom (and made our five to skip in all of Walt Disney World) is Astro Orbiter.

The is a typically spinner ride, but it is located high up in Tomorrowland.  The issue with this ride is two fold.

First, we feel like this ride takes a lot of effort to get to.  Guests have to ride an elevator to the loading area of the ride which can be extremely slow.  It is also the only way to get back down after riding.

The second reason we skip this ride is because of the spinning.  This ride seems to have a faster spin to it compared to Dumbo and Magic Carpets.  Because of that additional spin factor and maybe because of the height, we sit this ride out.

Magic Carpets of Aladdin- Adventureland

Very similar to Astro Orbiter and the exact same ride as Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Magic Carpets of Aladdin is another ride we skip in Magic Kingdom.

There isn’t anything wrong with this ride, but if we are going to choose to ride a spinner, we are going to head to the original Dumbo the Flying Elephant in Storybook Circus.

Magic Carpets allows Guests to fly in a carpet like Jasmine and Aladdin while controlling the tit and height of the carpet.  They can also try to avoid the spitting camel along the way.

Even though the wait times for this ride is typically low, we skip it to make sure we can experience some of the other rides in Magic Kingdom.

Tomorrowland Speedway- Tomorrowland

Another ride that we skip while in Magic Kingdom is the speedway in Tomorrowland.  This ride doesn’t appeal to us overall which is why we skip it.

The heat of the track, the smell of the cars and the overall frustration with driving (seriously why is it so hard to control) makes this ride more of a frustration than an enjoyable experience.

If you have little ones, they might love this ride as they are able to drive with an adult.  We personally think it needs an upgrade and overhaul.

Mad Tea Party

Mad Tea Party- Fantasyland

This iconic ride is one that most Guests know about before arriving in Magic Kingdom.  Commercials show families smiling and laughing away as they spin around in their very own tea cup.

Since we prefer not to spin, we skip this ride to make sure our stomachs remain calm and we can enjoy our time in Magic Kingdom.

If you like to spin, you might enjoy this ride more than we do.

Swiss Family Treehouse- Adventureland

This isn’t really a ride, but an attraction in Adventureland.  Swiss Family Treehouse is a replica of the treehouse that was inspired by the Swiss Family Robinson film.  The treehouse shows the different, innovative ways the family survived in the treehouse.

Since the treehouse is six-stories high with all sorts of steps, we skip this one to keep our legs from becoming even more tired as we visit Magic Kingdom.

The views from the top are amazing of Magic Kingdom, but with small walkways and lots of steps it can take a while to get around and can take a lot out of already tired legs.  Because of these factors, we tend to skip this attraction.

Those are the five rides that we often skip while in Magic Kingdom.  So what rides do we make sure we don’t miss?  Take a look and see if you agree!

Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean- Adventureland

One of the best rides in all of Walt Disney World and definitely our favorite in Magic Kingdom is Pirates of the Caribbean.

This ride has a little of everything that makes it super fun in our opinion.  From the great storyline, fun songs, and interesting boat ride (including a small drop) all work together to make this ride fantastic.

It isn’t a complete day in Magic Kingdom without riding Pirates of the Caribbean once, if not a few times.

Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion- Liberty Square

An iconic ride in Magic Kingdom and one that we have to experience during each visit to Magic Kingdom is Haunted Mansion.

This classic dark ride shows the true magic and creativity of Disney.  We love how the story begins before you even enter the mansion itself and continues throughout the whole ride with outstanding scenes around every corner.

We look forward to experiencing a ride with the creepy haunts each vacation, making Haunted Mansion a must-do Disney ride.

The Mountains

Okay we are cheating a little on this one, but we feel like experiencing the mountains in Magic Kingdom is a must.  Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain are three outstanding ride experiences that we do each and every time we are in the Disney Park.

Space Mountain is the most thrilling out of the three as Guests rocket through the dark.  Splash Mountain has the biggest drop with a five story drop (along with a few smaller ones throughout the ride) and finally, Big Thunder Mountain is the wildest ride in the wilderness.

Each of these rides are ones that we make sure we hit up during our Magic Kingdom day.

Jungle Cruise- Adventureland

Another ride that we like to experience each time we are in Magic Kingdom is the Jungle Cruise in Adventureland.  This ride is a fun adventure through different rivers where you don’t know what to expect.

What makes this ride the best are the jungle skippers that are super hilarious with their lame jokes.  Even though we have heard them before they still make us laugh each time we ride.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover-Tomorrowland

For a relaxing and magical ride, we hit up the PeopleMover each time we are in Magic Kingdom.  We love how we can see Magic Kingdom from a different point of view as well as enjoy a nice, relaxing ride.

This ride isn’t exciting at all, but that is what makes it unique and one we like to ride each visit to Magic Kingdom.  We like seeing Cinderella castle from up high and traveling through Space Mountain.

When it is hot and crowded, this is a great option to get away and relax without leaving the Park.

Those are out of five not to miss rides in Magic Kingdom.  Do you agree with our list or do you have other rides that you just have to do each and every time?

Even though we would love to ride and experience ALL of the rides in Magic Kingdom each and every time we visit, that isn’t possible.  We hope that this list will help you determine what you might focus on when you visit next.
