5 Changes We Wish Disney Would Make

Just because we love Walt Disney World doesn’t mean that there aren’t things we would like to see changed.  Most of what we see throughout the Disney Parks and Disney Resorts is magical; however, every once in a while we come across things that we would like to see adjusted.

Let’s take a look at five changes we would like to see Walt Disney World make moving forward to help the Guest experience be that much better.

Park Hopping

When booking their Walt Disney World Resort vacation, Guests have the option of adding a Park Hopper feature to their basic Disney ticket.  With a Park Hopper Guests are able to travel between the four Disney Parks (Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT) anytime after 2:00 pm.

This feature is a great way to see more Disney Parks in a single day during a Walt Disney World vacation.  There are two things we would like to see changed though when it comes to Park Hopping.

First, we would really like to see the 2:00 pm restriction adjusted, and second, we would like to see Disney adjust the requirement that Guests have to tap into the Disney Park they made a Park Pass Reservation for before hopping.

We realize that Disney is using these restrictions to help them with the workforce.  By not allowing Guests to hop until later in the day, Disney is able to navigate where most of the Guests will be in the morning and therefore staff the Parks accordingly.

It would be nice if Guests were able to hop earlier in the day allowing them more flexibility with dining reservations and using Genie+.  Removing the requirement to tap into your first Park before hopping would allow Guests to also have more flexibility if they choose to sleep in, head to Disney Springs, hang at the pool, or enjoy other Disney magic outside of the Theme Parks before heading in for the evening.

These are two features with Park Hopping that we would like to see adjusted by Disney moving forward.

Genie+ Selections

Genie+ is a paid feature that Guests can add to their Walt Disney World vacation through the My Disney Experience app.  With this feature, Guests are able to bypass the standby lines for selection attractions in the four Disney Parks.  This saves Guests time in line during their Disney vacation allowing them to explore more of the magic.

Genie+ has been very controversial as it is the first time that Disney has charged for this feature.  In the past, Fastpass, as well as Fastpass+, were included with your Walt Disney World tickets.  At $15/day/person, this can add up for families making it a large additional cost to budget for.  Even though we’d love to see this be free, that isn’t something that is likely to happen.

Our first focus on how we’d like to see Genie+ change is by allowing Guests to choose their return time.  One of the big frustrations with Genie+ currently is that Guests are given the next available time slot.  This can be difficult when trying to plan a day in the Parks.

Allowing Guests to choose their return window, it would make planning and touring the Disney Parks a lot easier and less stressful.

Genie+ Part Two

Another big part of Genie+ that we would like to see adjusted is the fact that Guests can modify their selections.  Right now if you find a better return time, you have to cancel your current selection and then hope that the new time remains available.  Unfortunately, since it is a live system, the chances of the new time still being available is not high.

We would like to see Disney add a modified option to Genie+.  This would allow Guests to adjust their Genie+ return windows if new times become available throughout the day.  Again, giving Guests more flexibility with this service they are paying for seems like a good move for Disney.

Genie+ Part Three

The third thing we would adjust with Genie+ was just put into place at the beginning of June.  Guests are no longer able to add Genie+ to their Walt Disney World package or tickets prior to their trip.  Now Guests are only able to add Genie+ starting at midnight.

Although we haven’t seen a true look at how this will play out moving forward, the idea that we have to add Genie+ at midnight and then be up at 7:00 am for our first selection is frustrating to us.  We already don’t get enough sleep on our Disney vacations and this is setting up all Guests to be up at strange hours.

We are hopeful that Disney processes this or we learn that the midnight drop isn’t essential so we can get some sleep.

WiFi Help

My Disney Experience has become essential to the Walt Disney World vacation experience.  As Disney relies more and more on their app, we wish they would invest more in the wifi and service throughout the Disney Parks and Disney Resorts.

Since we need to be on our phones for Genie+, to mobile order, see wait times, and even find bathrooms, it would be nice if the service throughout the Walt Disney World Property was able to support the need.

It can be a huge frustration when you are in a Disney Park trying to mobile order and you can’t get any service.  We would love to see Disney invest in this area.

We love Walt Disney World, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some things that we would like to see adjusted.  These are currently the top five changes we wish Disney would make to help Guests’ experiences be even more magical.
