Packing Cubes Are Your Friends

Before there were fancy packing cubes there were ziploc bags, but both have the same goal of keeping things organized.  A major packing secret that you should use when getting ready for Walt Disney World is to use packing cubes.  You can find these on Amazon in a variety of different styles and colors.

The reason that packing cubes are fantastic is that they keep everything organized throughout the vacation.  There are a few different ways to use packing cubes for your family.  One method is to get everyone their own color of packing cubes and then pack their clothing in those cubes.  Another way to use packing cubes is to pack each Disney Park day in a different packing cube.

Both methods are great as they keep clothing together both in the suitcase as well as in the Disney Resort.  We have also learned that you can label them with masking tape so everyone knows where socks and other items are located within the packing cubes without opening them all up each time.

We really have come to love packing cubes for all our family vacations as they keep us organized and our clothing easy to find.

Less Is More

As we mentioned earlier, you might think you need to bring the whole house with you to Walt Disney World but this is not the case.  You might be going to a “whole new world” but this world is not isolated from the rest of the world.  If you do forget something or need something, you can easily find it either at your Walt Disney World Resort or at a nearby store such as CVS or Target.  These are quick and easy Uber or Lyft rides away.

If you do try to bring everything to your house, it just means that you have to carry more throughout the airport and transport it throughout the trip.  This also means that all of that stuff has to be held in your Disney Resort room.  We love Disney Resorts and how they are upgrading to have more storage, but it is still a hotel room.  The more cluttered you make the Resort room, the more frustrated you will become throughout the stay.

Less is more when it comes to your Disney Park bag as well.  You don’t want to carry around a large, heavy backpack all day, especially in the heat of the day.  Think about the items that you absolutely need to have in the Disney Parks (we have suggestions on How to Disney) and focus just on those essentials.  You don’t need three pairs of Minnie Mouse ears no matter how adorable they are.

Shoes Are Key

If there is one item that is essential to a successful day in Disney Parks, it is your shoes.  Guests walk anywhere from eight-plus miles per day throughout Walt Disney World.  This is a lot of miles and your feet are not used to that.  Make sure that your feet stay happy by having good walking shoes.

We highly recommend wearing tennis shoes; however, many other Disney pros have sandals such as Berkinstocks or Tevias that they enjoy.  No matter what you choose to whereas you tour the Disney Parks, make sure they are broken in before you head down.  Having new shoes at Walt Disney World is not a good option.

Make sure you also bring a backup pair of shoes.  No matter how much you wear your shoes at home, the heat and humidity could cause them to rub.  Having a second pair of shoes can be a great relief to your feet.  This is also good if your original pair gets soaked in a Disney storm.  Although you could dry them out, it is nice to have a fresh pair to put on.

Take some time to process what shoes everyone is going to wear when at Walt Disney World.  This will make for some happy feet on the trip.

Room Organizers

An area that you might not think about when packing for Walt Disney World is how you are going to organize your Disney Resort.  Although Disney has done a fantastic job in updating the rooms to give more storage, there are a few items we bring to help keep our stuff in one place.

We like to bring hampers for our laundry.  It is nice to have a specific spot in the Resort room for dirty clothes.  This keeps them all together in one place instead of all over the room.  Often our pop-up hamper fits nicely in the bathroom area.  This keeps it out of the way but is also super convenient.

The other item we like to bring with us is cloth cubes.  We use these all over the room to keep our items together.  Typically we have one by the door for our sunglasses, magicbands, and other items we need to grab on the way out of the door.  We also use them in the bathroom to hold medicine and even on the dress for clothes.

These items are easy to toss into a bag and make a big difference in keeping our Resort room organized.

These packing secrets might seem simple, but they can make a big difference on your Walt Disney World vacation.  Looking for more packing tips and tricks?  Check out our posts on How to Disney!
