Guests Reconsider Disney World Vacations Under President Donald Trump
In light of President Donald Trump‘s recent re-election, some travelers are reconsidering their planned Walt Disney World Resort vacations. Concerns about inclusivity and safety for minorities, particularly in Florida, have come to the forefront as Disney Parks guests weigh their travel options.
Recent state-level legislation under Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has already raised red flags for some. Anti-transgender and anti-immigrant policies have created a sense of caution, especially for people of color and LGBTQIA+ individuals planning visits to the Sunshine State. In response, several non-profit organizations, including the ACLU, have issued travel advisories, urging certain groups—people of color, those with accents, international travelers, and LGBTQIA+ guests—to take extra precautions when visiting Florida.
Recently, Disney Parks fans on Reddit discussed their concerns about their upcoming 2025 vacations at Walt Disney World Resort. A particular focus of the conversation was whether marginalized guests could still feel safe and welcomed in an environment where the political climate has grown increasingly polarized. One user, u/SillyMrSpooks, asked if a gay couple’s travel plans for next Easter should be reconsidered, given the political atmosphere.
“My husband and I (both men) are nervous about visiting in Easter after Trump winning. I feel like Orlando is like a different world though. We’re staying onsite for the two weeks anyway so I imagine it will be fine, right?” they asked, sharing that past experiences with homophobia have made them more vigilant.
“I’ve been assaulted for my sexuality before,” the Disney Park guest explained. “Homophobia is something [we] experience regularly. It isn’t dramatic to be curious and consider safety.”
Many Disney Parks fans responded positively, emphasizing that Walt Disney World Resort is a welcoming place and noting that Disney cast members come from diverse backgrounds.
“Be careful around the airport but don’t be afraid to flag down security if you need it,” wrote u/Artsy_Fartsy_Fox. “I think you should be fine in the parks, as I’ve definitely seen trans/NB adults and children, as well as gay couples in the parks living their best lives. If you feel harassed, again, alert security. I can’t say there won’t be any instigation as bigots are everywhere, but you two have just as much right to be there as anyone else.”
Another commenter, u/Illustrious-Tower849, shared a similar perspective: “Orlando is fine, the rest of Florida is the problem.”
Concerns are not only limited to the LGBTQIA+ community and people of color. Following the failed ballot measure to protect abortion rights in Florida, heightened worries have surfaced among people who can get pregnant. Although the measure won the popular vote, it failed to meet the 60% threshold required to pass. Currently, abortion is illegal in Florida after six weeks of pregnancy, creating potential health risks for pregnant guests who may require critical care during their stay.
Does President Donald Trump’s re-election impact your decision to visit Walt Disney World Resort or other parts of Florida? How to Disney would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
Going in January. The selfish part of me wants to advise everyone to stay home. (Less crowds for me) The realist in me want to remind everyone this is Disney, Politics not allowed.
WAS THERE AN ISSUE DURING TRUMP’S FIRST TERM?
WHO WAS IN OFFICE WHEN YOU WERE “ASSAULTED FOR YOUR SEXUALITY”, PARK GUEST…..
UNFORTUNATELY, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE ISSUES FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR AND LGBTQIA COMMUNITY. ITS VERY SAD.
I REALLY DO NOT THINK IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE WHO IS IN OFFICE.
