Disney Guest Urinates on “Offensive” Pirates of the Caribbean Ride, Causes Outrage

A Disneyland Resort guest recently recounted a distressing incident involving a man who urinated on the controversial Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

The discussion came when a Reddit user asked Disney Parks fans about the “grossest,” “weirdest,” or “most entitled” thing they’d witnessed at Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, or the Downtown Disney District.

“Some dude pissing off the side of the boat during Pirates of the Caribbean and splashing it on me!” u/Flaky-Box7881 replied.

This incident comes amid ongoing controversies about the New Orleans Square attraction.

The Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride has a long-standing reputation as a beloved attraction at Disneyland Resort. Since its debut in the 1960s, it has captivated millions with its immersive storytelling and cutting-edge audio-animatronics. Originally conceptualized as a walk-through exhibit, the boat ride takes guests through a swashbuckling world filled with pirates, treasure, and adventure.

Despite its popularity, the Pirates of the Caribbean ride has not been without controversy. Over the years, critics have pointed out various aspects of the attraction that reflect outdated cultural stereotypes and gender portrayals. Discussions about cultural sensitivity have grown, causing Walt Disney Imagineering to assess and change certain scenes within the ride.

In the late 2010s, Walt Disney Imagineers updated a bride auction scene to remove a sexist depiction of women as objects being sold. In the new version, the female animatronics are adventurous, independent pirates selling stolen goods.

Some Disney Parks fans weren’t happy about these changes, but others felt Walt Disney Imagineering needed to update the Pirates of the Caribbean ride further. In 2023, a woman went viral when she said she felt objectified by the male pirate animatronics.

“I just think this is kind of a weird ride,” she explained. “I don’t know… It’s just a little bit rapey.”

The guest wasn’t alone.

“I always felt violated on this ride,” one social media user commented.

“It feels like we’re the entertainment for them and I do not like it,” said another.
