In a new announcement from Disney, the classic Star Tours attraction will be getting a massive makeover and will soon feature several new characters from the Star Wars universe.

Starting later this year, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will debut at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris, featuring several new characters like The Mandalorian, Ashoka, and Andor, all of which starred in their own Disney+ series.

These new adventures will officially start on April 5, 2024, meaning guests only need to wait a few short weeks before they can fly across the galaxy with a host of new characters. Star Tours is located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Disneyland Park in Disneyland, Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland at the Tokyo Disney Resort. While an announcement was made for three of the four versions, no word was given as to why Tokyo’s version will not be receiving this upgrade.

Star Tours is one of the most iconic Disney attractions, though it may not be what comes to mind first when fans think about the theme parks. Over the years, The Walt Disney Company has certainly introduced some impressive, technologically advanced experiences that push the boundaries of theme park immersion and storytelling. From Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the Disney theme parks are home to stunning feats of engineering and design.

However, Star Tours has always remained a cult classic, featuring some of Disney’s best theming and writing. The ride places guests directly into their own Star Wars story, which is told through a motion-simulator-based experience. What makes the ride so great is that the “film” guests see during the ride is randomly selected each time. There are three distinct sections of the ride’s film and story, with each one being placed together each ride. This means that no two Star Tours experiences are the same, giving guests plenty of reason to ride it over and over.

For years, Star Tours operated with only one film, and the attraction was fun enough, though it certainly got old. However, this all changed in 2011 with the premiere of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, which is when the randomly selected films were added. The nature of the attraction makes it a prime spot to add more films, as it does not require Disney to heavily modify the ride itself, just the digital aspects.

Several locations and characters from the Star Wars sequel trilogy were added over the years, meaning guests can see a whole range of characters on Star Tours, from Darth Vader to Rey Skywalker.
