Disney World Ride Closed After Families Were Trapped 70-Feet in the Air

A temporary closure at Walt Disney World Resort left families stuck high above EPCOT on the Soarin’ Around the World attraction, leading to a tense experience for guests. The flight-simulator ride came to an unexpected halt last week, trapping riders nearly 80 feet in the air for more than 30 minutes.
Soarin’ Around the World debuted at EPCOT in 2016, replacing the original Soarin’ Over California theme. Sister versions later opened in other Disney parks worldwide, including Tokyo Disney Resort and Shanghai Disneyland. It’s a fan favorite for many Disney Parks fans, offering sweeping views, realistic smells, and the sensation of flight over iconic global landmarks. But last week’s breakdown might make some guests pause before hopping into line.

TikTok user @kettlecornmakspam captured the ordeal, sharing a video showing guests stranded mid-flight. “We have been up here for 30 min and someone barfed,” the rider captioned the clip.

Disney cast members safely carried out the evacuation process, and to compensate for the disruption, affected guests were given two free Lightning Lane passes. These unrestricted passes allowed riders to enjoy high-demand attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind multiple times.

“Update we got 2 free lighting lanes and rode Guardians twice in a row,” the TikToker wrote.
Walt Disney World Resort typically refrains from publicly commenting on ride malfunctions. However, Soarin’ Around the World resumed regular operation shortly after the incident, returning to the smooth, magical experience guests expect.
