Disney World Announces Major Change for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster—Here’s What We Know So Far

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is about to undergo some major changes, and it all starts with a fresh coat of paint.

Walt Disney World has filed a permit to repaint the massive guitar that stands at the ride’s entrance, a familiar sight for guests over the years. While a simple repaint may not seem significant at first glance, many believe this is just the beginning of a much larger transformation for the high-speed coaster.

The contract has been awarded to Harrison Contracting Co. Inc., with plans to sand, prime, and apply two coats of paint. Whether the guitar will retain its signature red-and-white color scheme or debut a completely new look remains unknown, but this update has fans speculating about what’s next for the attraction. The last repaint was completed in 2021, and with rumors swirling about a major retheme, it’s hard not to connect the dots.

Disney confirmed earlier this year that The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, bringing a new storyline, a fresh soundtrack, and the signature humor that has made the franchise a fan favorite for decades.

While the exact opening date of the reimagined attraction has not been announced, guests can expect a rock festival-style adventure featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, and other beloved Muppets. Unlike other Disney ride overhauls, this transformation is not expected to alter the structure of the coaster itself.

The high-speed launch, loops, and neon-lit visuals will remain, but the Aerosmith branding will disappear entirely. The biggest changes will take place in the queue, pre-show, and on-ride music, creating a completely different experience without altering the attraction’s core thrills.

This shift is just one of many happening across Walt Disney World. Hollywood Studios recently saw the closure of MuppetVision 3D, marking the end of an era for the longtime show.

While many guests were sad to see it go, the move aligns with Disney’s goal of bringing The Muppets back into the spotlight in a bigger way.

At Magic Kingdom, the upcoming Beyond Big Thunder Mountain expansion is set to bring new themed lands to the park, with experiences inspired by Disney Villains and Cars. Meanwhile, Animal Kingdom is preparing for a major transformation as DinoLand U.S.A. makes way for a new land based on Encanto and Indiana Jones.

The fate of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in its current form seems sealed, and it’s only a matter of time before Disney announces when the attraction will close for its transformation.

The repainting of the guitar may be the first sign that big changes are on the way, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney moves quickly to complete the retheme in the next year. For those who love the original version, now is the time to get in a final ride before the changes begin.

Meanwhile, Muppets fans can look forward to a fast-paced, music-filled adventure that promises to bring a fresh and comedic energy to the park. Whether guests are excited or hesitant about the upcoming transformation, there’s no denying that 2025 will be a year of major change for Disney World, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is just one piece of the puzzle.
