New Update Arrives for Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Guests Beware
Big changes are stirring across Walt Disney World Resort, and the transformation is easy to spot. From fresh construction walls to exciting announcements, each visit brings a peek at what’s coming next as the parks continue to evolve day and night.

This summer, the landscape of nighttime fun has shifted in an exciting new direction. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has officially joined the Extended Evening Hours lineup, offering guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts the chance to experience the park in an entirely new light—literally. From the tranquil bioluminescent glow of Pandora–The World of Avatar to the thrill of Expedition Everest in the dark, Animal Kingdom now provides a unique, serene adventure under the stars.
Meanwhile, over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, big changes are in motion. Construction began in early June in the Grand Avenue area, where the Muppet-themed zone—including Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo—has started to make way for something new. The beloved attractions are stepping aside as a brand-new land takes shape, one that’s bound to capture hearts and imaginations.

First teased by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro at the 2024 D23 Expo, the new area is themed around Monsters, Inc.—appropriately titled Monstropolis. The upcoming land will be anchored by a suspended coaster based on the unforgettable door chase scene from the original film. “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” said D’Amaro. “We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”
Disney is also keeping nights exciting through hard-ticket events like Disney After Hours and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, each offering low wait times and bonus entertainment with a more exclusive feel. But for many Deluxe Resort guests, it’s the Extended Evening Hours perk that continues to be a top highlight.

This summer’s Extended Evening Hours calendar features:
Magic Kingdom: June 25, August 13
EPCOT: June 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28; August 4, 11, 18, 25
Animal Kingdom: July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; August 6
Hollywood Studios: August 29
The single date for Hollywood Studios makes it a rare opportunity—but it also comes with one notable omission. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will not be available during the 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. timeframe. Both the Walt Disney World app and planDisney confirm that the attraction won’t be operating during those hours.

However, there’s a helpful strategy for guests hoping to experience the ride: planDisney recommends joining the standby queue just before park closing. As Lightning Lane access ends, the line typically moves faster. “While this may not be the magical news you had hoped to hear,” planDisney added, “if you’re really committed to experiencing this attraction… consider jumping in the standby line for the attraction just before the regular park closing time.”
It’s worth noting that not all headliners are guaranteed during Extended Evening Hours—Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom is also currently excluded.

In a surprising update, Magic Kingdom is rejoining the nighttime rotation after a brief hiatus. Originally pulled reportedly to make way for the debut of the new nighttime parade Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, the park is now back on the calendar. Beginning July 20, the parade will light up Main Street, U.S.A. with shows at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., drawing considerable crowds.
Magic Kingdom’s Extended Evening Hours will return on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.—now officially listed on the My Disney Experience app. Guests should take note of the sporadic schedule if they want to make the most of their Deluxe resort vacation.
With new lands coming, nighttime offerings growing, and surprises around every corner, the future of Walt Disney World Resort looks brighter than ever. Which park are you most excited to explore after dark?
