Multiple Disneyland Icons Are Closing Soon – Are You Prepared?

Disneyland is closing a number of rides and attractions.

While magic abounds at Disney’s original theme park resort, ride closures are still necessary in any theme park. This includes “The Happiest Place on Earth,” which will see three more classic attractions close over the coming weeks.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will temporarily wind down operations at Disneyland Park on September 2. The wild roller coaster does not have a reopening date, so guests wanting to enjoy this ride better do so sooner rather than later.

This mirrors what’s going on the East Coast, as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for an extensive refurbishment at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. The Florida version of the attraction closed this January and is not expected to reopen until sometime in 2026.

Pirate’s Lair and Dumbo the Flying Elephant will also close in September. Pirate’s Lair, part of Disneyland’s Tom Sawyer Island, will close on September 15. Dumbo will close the following day, September 16. Both attractions will reopen on September 18.

These closures join several other refurbishments happening across Disneyland. In July, the resort bid a temporary farewell to Star Wars: The Adventures Continue, a Star Wars-inspired motion simulator ride.

Casey Jr. Circus Train and Storybook Land Canal Boats are both currently closed. Neither ride has an official reopening date.

Another big loss for Disneyland is Radiator Springs Racers. This Cars-themed thrill ride will close on August 18 and has no reopening date.

Despite these closures, guests will still have a lot to enjoy at Disneyland, as the resort is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Like Walt Disney World, Disneyland’s annual Halloween event, Oogie Boogie Bash, also kicks off soon. During these events, guests can expect to find limited-edition merchandise and snacks, as well as all kinds of festive decor scattered throughout the parks.

These are separately-ticked events and usually sell out well in advance.

Luke Dammann

When at Disney world, Luke will probably be found eating with his favorite animatronic, Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. When not at Disney World, Luke will probably be found defending Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe to people who claim "there are better restaurants"
