Magic Kingdom Visit Ends in Arrest After Disturbing Incident Involving Minor
A woman landed herself in jail after allegedly placing her hands on a minor at Walt Disney World.

A recent event at Disney’s Magic Kingdom took an unexpected turn when a woman attempted to secure a better parade viewing spot. The incident involved a 51-year-old Colombian tourist named Martha Lucia Zapata Echeverrí, who was taken into custody following allegations of child abuse.
Reports indicate that the situation escalated as Echeverrí attempted to push through a crowd to get a better view of the parade, placing her hands on a 17-year-old who was in her way.
During the incident, the teenager requested that Echeverrí refrain from touching her. This request, however, was ignored when Echeverrí allegedly grabbed the teen by the arm and pulled her aside. Echeverrí claimed her actions were in pursuit of her daughter, who was further up in the crowd. She contended that the teenager had pushed her first, indicating a claim of self-defense. The aftermath left the teen with a minor scrape and bruise, reminding everyone of how tensions can escalate in crowded spaces.
Reports state that there were no witnesses or footage available to corroborate the claims from either side. Echeverrí pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released after posting bond.

Crowds can be animated and sometimes chaotic during events at Disney World. The parades at Magic Kingdom are particularly popular, attracting large numbers of guests who wish to capture the magic of the moment. With limited space along the parade route, many people tend to claim their viewing spots early. Unfortunately, this eagerness can lead to friction among attendees.
Previous incidents have shown that a buildup of frustration can lead to confrontation. For example, there have been cases where individuals have faced arrests due to altercations sparked by disputes over optimal viewing positions. In 2023, tensions escalated when a man was arrested for allegedly putting his hands on security personnel while trying to secure his spot on Main Street U.S.A. Another visitor was arrested for cocaine possession while trying to enter the park. Such incidents exemplify how excitement can sometimes lead to regrettable choices, affecting not just those involved but also the overall atmosphere of the day.
Echeverrí entered a plea of not guilty. Her defense attorney, Bryan Farinas, has spoken out, arguing that the event has been mischaracterized. Farinas maintains that all evidence will eventually indicate there was no criminal intent behind Echeverrí’s actions.
It’s a shame that people are so unruly
I’ve been going to WDW for 53 years. The last years have been a challenge with unruly, rude people. Leaving after the fireworks is horrifying. I’ve been pushed, shoved and banged around. Being sorry doesn’t help. There has to be a better war to control crowds.

First of all, Disney parks have always been big destinations for foreign visitors. They are not the (oh no, dreaded) immigrants; they are tourists. And tourism is how Disney parks make money. Tourism is how the money also gets funneled to the state.
