Key Times When Genie+ is Worth It and When to Skip It

There are a lot of decisions that Guests have to make when it comes to their Walt Disney World vacations. One of the newest decisions that Guests have to make is regarding Genie+.

Genie+ is a paid feature that Guests can add to their Walt Disney World vacation. By adding this feature, Guests are given access to the Lightning Lanes at over 40 experiences throughout Disney’s four main Parks.

Pricing for Genie+ ranges from $15 to $29 per day per person. Pricing is date based. This means you will see a higher price for Genie+ on busier days. Because it is an expensive feature, we wanted to break down when Genie+ is worth it and when you might want to skip it.

Worth It: Want to Skip Lines

One of the biggest reasons why Genie+ is worth it is if you want to avoid standing in lines. By purchasing Genie+, you can access the Lightning Lanes for various rides, shows, and experiences throughout the four Disney Parks.

By using the Lightning Lanes, you can avoid the long standby lines. Genie+ cuts your wait time in half, and most of the time, your wait time is between ten and fifteen minutes. This can save you a lot of time throughout your Walt Disney World trip.

If your goal is to experience as much as possible with as short of waits as possible, then Genie+ is worth it.

Skip It: Rides Aren’t Your Focus

When planning your touring plans, if rides aren’t your focus, then Genie+ probably won’t be worth it. The goal of Genie+ is to help Guests experience attractions with lower wait times; if this doesn’t match your focus, then save the money.

Before you head down to Walt Disney World, think about your goals. If your goal isn’t to hit all the E-ticket attractions, then Genie+ might not be something you need to purchase. Know your goals so you can determine if Genie+ will help you achieve them or if you can skip them.

Worth It: Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios

You don’t have to purchase Genie+ every day of your trip. Instead, you can buy it on special days based on your plans. When traveling to Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Genie+ is worth it.

Magic Kingdom has so many experiences that are included with Genie+. Because of all the options, you can use Genie+ easily throughout the day. For Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Genie+ is worth it because of all the E-ticket attractions.

With so many E-ticket attractions, Disney’s Hollywood Studios have many longer wait times built throughout the day. By having Genie+, you can navigate these lines easier.

Skip It: Disney’s Animal Kingdom and EPCOT

Whereas Genie+ is worth it when visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom, we suggest skipping it when visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom and EPCOT. We recommend skipping Genie+ at these two Parks because there aren’t as many experiences to use it with.

By using early entry or staying later in the evening, you will be able to experience these two Parks without long waits. Skip purchasing Genie+ and instead head in with a good touring plan. This will allow you to avoid those long waits. My Disney Experience App

Worth It: Technology Pro

Genie+ is used through the My Disney Experience app. It is here that Guests can book, modify and cancel their selections. If you are comfortable using technology, you can navigate Genie+.

Unfortunately, you can’t experiment with Genie+ before arriving at Walt Disney World and purchasing it. Even though this is the case, you can take some time to look over the app. You are getting a general idea of how the app works will make Genie+ easier to use when you arrive.

Skip It: Technology Causes Frustration

If you are often frustrated with technology, then Genie+ might not be for you. As mentioned above, Genie+ relies on technology through the My Disney Experience app. For those who don’t want to have to navigate the app or not want to be on their phone a lot during their trip, Genie+ should be skipped.

Worth It: Flexible Schedule

Genie+ is helpful when you have a flexible schedule. Since you can’t choose return times, you have to be loose with your plans. It has to be slightly more manageable now that there is a modified option. This can allow you to adjust times if better ones become available.

When booking Genie+, know that you will have to have some flexibility within your plans as you book return times.

Skip It: Busy Schedule

For those that have a lot of plans scheduled throughout their Parks days, Genie+ might not be worth it. Since you won’t be able to plan Genie+ around your other plans, it might not be as user-friendly.

If you have a lot of dining booked or have experienced such as Bibbity Bobbity Boutuqe booked, you might want to avoid adding Genie+ on top of those plans. Think about how much you already have planned before purchasing Genie+.

Genie+ can be a beneficial tool if used in the right situations. Think about when Genie+ is worth it and when you should skip it during your upcoming Walt Disney World vacation. Having a plan ahead of time can allow you to budget as well as plan for using this feature. Genie+ isn’t needed every day for a magical experience. Do some additional research so you can be ready for a magical time.
