How to Know Which Iconic Disney Snack is Right for You!

As a Disney World vacation draws near, that bubble of excitement grows larger and larger. I think about what attractions I’ll experience, what parades I must see, and what foods I simply HAVE to eat. Yes, I anticipate the Disney foods just as much—if not more—than a host of other Disney experiences. There are certain foods found on Disney property that are so tasty, so memorable, so nostalgia-inducing, so DISNEY, that you’d be short-changing yourself in a big way if you left your vacation without experiencing them. But let’s face it, our stomachs can only handle so much at one time and our Disney World vacations can only last so long making the goal of trying them all perhaps a tad unrealistic. So how are we to know which iconic Disney World Parks snack is right for us? Which one of these tasty foods will hit the spot and satisfy like no other? Let’s take a look and find out!

6. Are you craving a cold, thirst-quenching drink…?

The combination of the Florida heat and the constant walking you are doing at the Disney Parks can turn any park guest’s throat into a dry, barren, Mojave desert-like place. Yes, guzzling water is highly recommended for this situation, but sometimes we need a little something extra to get us through when we are drained and parched. There are a couple of Disney beverages that are truly impressive and iconic in their popularity and are certain to ease your greedily thirsty throat.

LeFrou’s Brew, found at Gaston’s Tavern in the New Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom, is one of these famous drinks. This non-alcoholic beverage is like an apple juice slushie that bears the slightest hint of toasted marshmallow and is topped with a passion fruit-mango foam. It is delicious and gulp-worthy (just beware of brain-freeze!) and is certain to quench your thirst!
Grey Goose and/or Grand Marnier Slush

These frozen-alcoholic beverages found in the France Pavilion at Epcot have rapidly gained popularity in recent years because they are so darn delicious that people can’t stop talking—and blogging—about them (guilty!). Yes, these slushies are for grown-ups only, and are a great way to cool down as you mosey around the World Showcase. Found at the Champagne Kiosk in their very own slushie machine (like the kind you see at convenience stores everywhere), the Grey Goose Slush is a tart, lemon flavored icy drink with the addition of Grey Goose Citron Vodka and the Grand Marnier Slush is an orange flavored icy drink with the addition of Grand Marnier Liqueur. Both are equally tasty, and both are worthy of satisfying the cottonmouthed guest in need of a refreshingly cold drink.

5. Are you craving a salty snack…?

It should come as no surprise that one of the BEST salty snacks at Disney is their popcorn. Disney popcorn is insanely addicting and quite possibly the best popcorn you’ll ever crunch. Oh-so-buttery and oh-so-salty, it truly helps satisfy any snack craving you may get while wandering the Disney Park grounds. Lucky for us, you can find a freshly-popping popcorn cart practically anywhere in the Disney theme parks (if you aren’t sure where to go, simply take in a deep lungful and let your nose be your guide!). This Disney snack is very shareable and finger-lickin’ fantastic! Check out “Top 10 Sensationally Salty Snacks at Walt Disney World.”

4. Are you craving something crunchy, yet sweet…?

Then head on over to Germany’s Karamel Kuche in Epcot’s World Showcase where you’ll find one of my favorite Disney treats ever. Just as addicting as Disney popcorn, the freshly-made caramel corn found at Epcot is perfect for those who have a bit of a sweet tooth. The caramel corn at Karamel Kuche is made with Werther’s Original Caramel (as is all of the other mouthwatering caramel treats here) and is made daily, right here in this tiny, free-standing caramel shop. Time it just right and Epcot guests can even watch their caramel corn get made right before their very eyes! If you’re craving a sweet crunch, this fix will do the trick! Every chewy, soft, buttery crunch of caramel popcorn will have your taste buds singing.

Another iconic Disney World food that will satisfy your desire for something sweet and crunchy can be found at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments inside the Magic Kingdom. The waffle sandwiches found on the menu here have all sorts of personalities, the menu boasting several different varieties. The Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich is my personal favorite and will undoubtedly give you the sweet, salty crunch that the title implies. This “snack” is more like a meal, so if you don’t want to fill up completely make sure you share this with someone. The sweet factor in this delicious Disney favorite comes in part from the waffle, which you’ll use as a sort of taco shell to the spicy, crunchy fried chicken inside. The chicken is coated in a sweet and spicy sauce, giving your glands that added sweet zing with each bite. There is also a crunchy slaw inside, rounding out the flavors and textures quite brilliantly.

3. Are you craving ice cream…?

Let’s face it—it’s hard NOT to crave ice cream at Disney World. Most days have the sweltering heat beating down on you and ice cream seems like the perfect means of salvation against this brutal force.

There are several routes to take in this situation, and none of them are the wrong ones. Ice cream stands are a dime a dozen on Disney property, and I’ve never encountered one I didn’t like. That being said, there are a few ice cream (and ice cream-like) concoctions that should satisfy your craving while also satisfying your goal of experiencing iconic Disney treats. The Dole Whip stands out as a cult favorite, cementing its legendary status as one of the most refreshing, tastiest, iconic Disney treats. You can find this pineapple-flavored soft serve concoction over at Magic Kingdom’s Aloha Isle in Adventureland. Next in line is the always in-demand Mickey’s Premium Bar, a pre-packaged vanilla ice cream bar in the shape of Mickey’s head on a stick, dipped in chocolate (think Klondike Bar). This simple but delicious treat is the perfect way to cool off during those nasty-hot Disney days. Because of the popularity and pre-packaged convenience, you can find these treats at food carts in every Disney theme park.

Last but not least in our iconic Disney ice cream-related find is the insanely scrumptious homemade ice cream cookie sandwich, available at a number of places inside the Disney Parks. When you sandwich two scoops of your favorite ice cream between two warm, soft cookies (chocolate chip is, in my opinion, the only way to go) you will find yourself in a state of complete euphoria with each and every bite. Disney masters the ice cream cookie sandwich so triumphantly that you may want to order this after every meal or, heck, even AS your meal! Find these amazing treats in the Magic Kingdom at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and Sleepy Hollow Refreshments. At Epcot, you can find Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches at L’Artisan des Glaces in the France Pavilion. Look for ice cream cookie sandwiches at Dino Bites in Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Scoops in Hollywood Studios. You might also like “Top 5 “Must Try” Ice Cream Treats in Walt Disney World.”

2. Are you craving a stick-to-your-ribs comfort snack…?

Feeling a little carnivorous? Sometimes you need something a little heartier and a little more substantial than your average run-of-the-mill Disney snack. Cue the Turkey Leg or Pork Shank. Despite being a constant contestant in the love/hate debate, the turkey leg has cemented quite the cult following. You can find them everywhere on Disney property and whether you’ve tasted one yourself or not, you’ve undoubtedly witnessed someone tearing their teeth caveman-style into these meaty legs. These jumbo smoked turkey legs might just be the way to go for a belly-filling comfort snack, especially if you’ve never tried one before! The Pork Shank is definitely gaining popularity as it is the most recent star of the somewhat-newish Gaston’s Tavern. Many agree that the Pork Shank is more preferred, whether because it is tastier or because it isn’t as widely available as the turkey leg is uncertain. Salty and flavorful, the meat is so tender on these pork shanks that it falls quite readily off the bone. Sinking your teeth into either of these options will have you enjoying a rib-sticking, comforting iconic Disney treat.

1. Are you craving an indulgent treat…?

Perhaps my favorite kind of craving is the one that has me reaching for a decadent dessert. There is no shortage of these kinds of treats on Disney property, some standing out with their legendary status more than others. The Carrot Cake Cookie is one such treat, available in The Writer’s Stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This dessert has you biting into two large carrot cake-like cookies sandwiching a rich, luscious cream cheese frosting. If you need to satisfy your sweet tooth, this iconic Disney treat is the right one for you! Another favorite is the School Bread, found at Norway’s Kringla Bakeri Og Café in Epcot. This Norwegian pastry is puffy, soft bread filled with sweet vanilla cream and topped with toasted coconut. It’s light, airy and perfectly sweet. The Butterfinger Cupcake and the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake definitely warrants a mention as well. Both iconic Disney cupcakes can be found inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Starring Rolls Café. These delectable desserts are monstrous in size, yet hard to share because they are just that good. The Butterfinger Cupcake is a moist chocolate cake filled with chocolate fudge and topped with a HUGE mound of whipped vanilla frosting which is covered in crunchy Butterfinger pieces. The center of the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake is filled with a dollop of cheesecake, then topped with frosting and drizzled with chocolate. Toffee crunch is then sprinkled on top of that. When that sweet tooth hankering hits, you can’t go wrong with any of these indulgent iconic Disney treats!
