There’s no theme park ride more famous than Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still hidden secrets within the attraction. Recently, a Disneyland fan highlighted a commonly-missed part of Pirates of the Caribbean, sharing a photo of a creepy skeleton looking in the background of a scene.

Passport to Dreams (@Passport2Dreams) shared the photo, which is linked below:

Hi it’s 2 in the morning and I wanted to tell everyone that there’s a skeleton in DL Pirates of the Caribbean in a pitch black corner that you’ve been riding past your entire life and never known about. Took out my phone flash last month and verified it. (not my pic)

As you can see, in the jail scene lies a decomposed body, leaving nothing but a pile of bones on the floor. This scene is usually totally dark, meaning it’s incredibly hard for guests to even see the pile of bones lying on the floor as they pass it. It’s for sure a creepy sight, and the fact that so many guests miss this body due to how dark this section of the ride is makes it that much creepier. To add to the creepiness, there have been rumors for decades that the original Pirates of the Caribbean features real skeletons throughout the ride, meaning this body may very well be an actual deceased human.

It’s a similar feeling to that of DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where a totally separate Caranatraurous head can be seen in the dark at the final portion of the ride. Something about an animatronic laying still in total darkness is quite off-putting but also super interesting.

There may not be a more legendary or iconic theme park ride than Pirates of the Caribbean. What originally started as a quant water ride at a new theme park named Disneyland has become a globally recognized franchise, complete with rides, books, movies, and video games.

The first iteration of the ride opened in 1967 at Disneyland Park and was an instant hit. The attraction featured a level of detail, unlike anything guests had seen at the time, along with dozens of impressive audio-animatronics. The ride also had a memorable soundtrack and some great voice acting, making for an unforgettable swashbuckling experience all around. Eventually, a version of Pirates of the Caribbean would make its way into nearly every single Disney Resort, including Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland. The ride has undergone many changes throughout the years, most of which addressed the ride’s rather dark and adult nature.

One of the most infamous changes to the ride came in 2018, with Disney removing the “Bride Auction” scene entirely, replacing it with a brand-new scene. You can check out a video of the original scene below.

This was a huge turning point for the ride and Walt Disney Imagineering itself, informing guests that even the park’s most iconic attractions were not immune to change. Overall, this was a positive addition to the ride, giving a literal voice to a character guests have passed by for decades.

With how dark an attraction like Haunted Mansion is, many fans have wondered if Disney would take action and change certain scenes.

What’s your favorite Disney theme park attraction? Do you enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean?

When at Disney world, Luke will probably be found eating with his favorite animatronic, Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. When not at Disney World, Luke will probably be found defending Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe to people who claim "there are better restaurants"
