The latest phase of exterior work at Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters has wrapped up at Disneyland Park, with the construction coverings that surrounded part of the Tomorrowland attraction now gone.

WDW News Today reports that the gray scrim and blue construction walls have been removed, exposing a freshly finished section of the building. The ride’s textured exterior walls now carry a richer, more vibrant tan than before. Crews first put the coverings up in mid-September. The attraction stayed open throughout, and cast members reportedly said the project centered on exterior painting and renovation work.

Round Two for Buzz

This is the second round of visible work on the attraction in 2026. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters went down for refurbishment in April and returned in mid-June after roughly two months offline.

During that closure, the facade was repainted extensively. Several architectural features traded their former gray, green, and beige palette for brighter white and blue-green shades. The entrance columns were recolored, and the trim and exterior mural were touched up as well. Inside the building, upgraded lighting brightened a number of effects, most notably those around the Emperor Zurg animatronic.

About the Attraction

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters sits in Tomorrowland near Space Mountain and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. The shooting-gallery dark ride draws from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, sending guests aboard space cruisers fitted with laser cannons and score displays to help Buzz take down Zurg. An onboard joystick lets riders spin their vehicle a full 360 degrees.

After a soft opening in March, the ride officially debuted on May 5, 2005. With no height requirement, it remains a go-to pick for families.

Tomorrowland’s Ongoing Makeover

The Buzz reveal is the newest in a string of cosmetic changes across the land. Coverings came off the Little Green Men Store Command, the Toy Story-themed shop at the ride’s exit, in September, uncovering refreshed portions of its facade along with the restored Space Mountain mural. Additional refreshed paintwork in the area followed in October.

All of this comes after Disney announced plans for a new Tomorrowland at Disneyland Resort during the D23 Expo this past summer.

“The transformation of Tomorrowland will honor the legacy of the original land while reimagining its future,” Disney Parks Blog wrote following the reveal. “Disneyland Resort will strive to preserve what guests cherish most, while also introducing new experiences and possibilities for the next generation of fans.”

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
