Breakup Before Your Disney World Trip? Here’s How One Couple Managed

A breakup before a dream Walt Disney World Resort vacation sounds like something out of a romantic comedy—but for TikTok user @mel.ani.eea, it was all too real. She and her now-ex found themselves navigating the awkward aftermath of a split just days before their prepaid, nonrefundable Disney Parks trip.

Their story quickly amassed thousands of views and comments on TikTok. It struck a chord with other Disney Parks fans, who shared similar stories of going on prepaid vacations with their exes.

For those wondering, Disney offers a pretty flexible cancellation policy for Disney Resort hotels and theme park tickets: canceling more than 30 days out allows for a full refund while canceling between two and 29 days before arrival gets you a refund minus a $200 fee. But within 24 hours of the trip, refunds aren’t available. While some guests report that Disney can be flexible with rescheduling or even refunding last-minute cancellations, that wasn’t an option for @mel.ani.eea and her ex.

Their trip to Orlando was planned around the Electric Daisy Carnival music festival, with a stop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Though it must have been a tough decision to stick with the original plan, the couple took on the challenge—and matching outfits! In one TikTok video, the former couple strolled through Animal Kingdom in coordinating shirts, their expressions a mix of humor and resignation.

“When yall break up but had a trip planned and paid for…” the TikToker captioned the clip, adding with a laugh, “It’s funny now.”

In the comments, viewers shared similar “post-breakup vacation” stories. One commenter wrote, “No bc this literally happened to me and the trip was to Disney World too,” while another shared, “This was me earlier this year except it was my birthday trip.” Others offered creative alternatives, like going solo or giving their ex’s ticket to a friend. TikTok user @rapture_mfg commented, “[I’ve] done this, got a new girl and took her instead.”
