Disney has secured the green light from the U.S. government to proceed with a vibrant new construction project in Florida. Recent approval from the Federal Aviation Administration has paved the way for the construction of a new hotel on the site that was once earmarked for the Reflections—A Lakeside Lodge. This new addition is set to be a 10-story hotel that promises to enhance the guest experience at Walt Disney World. It is a significant step forward for Disney’s hospitality offerings.
As part of the construction plan, Disney will utilize six high-reaching mobile cranes to aid the building efforts, as reported by various sources. The work is expected to commence shortly, with plans set for a streamlined 10-month timeline beginning in October. This combination of approval and ambitious scheduling demonstrates the company’s commitment to elevating its resort capabilities and responding to guest demands for unique accommodations.

Reflections: What Is (Was) It?
The concept behind the Reflections project was to create a new Disney Vacation Club resort that would celebrate nature and provide an immersive experience for families. Initially, this hotel was to take the place of Disney’s River Country Water Park, which had its own storied history. River Country, the first water park at Walt Disney World, opened its gates to guests in 1976, capturing the essence of outdoor fun.
Over the years, River Country became a beloved attraction, even though it was smaller in scale compared to Disney’s later water parks, such as Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. The water park closed its doors for the final time in 2005, leaving its land vacant. With the advent of the Reflections project, Disney aimed to transform that space, combining ecological beauty with premium lodging options. Unfortunately, the original vision for Reflections was interrupted before it could be realized, leaving many fans hopeful for its revival.
The unforeseen onset of the COVID-19 pandemic had a profound effect on many sectors, including the theme park and hospitality industry. Disney’s Reflections project was not spared from this disruption, with construction plans being put on ice indefinitely. As the company navigated the complexities of the pandemic, priorities shifted, especially regarding large-scale developments that required significant investment.
When restrictions eased, and Disney began to reassess its projects, it became clear that some elements of Reflections might still have a place in future plans. Recently, signs of revival emerged when permits surfaced indicating that Disney was ready to move forward, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in a changing environment.

With the new hotel project, guests can anticipate a renewed focus on immersive experiences, likely incorporating elements from the original Reflections concept. Described by Disney as a celebration of Walt Disney’s passion for nature, the new hotel is expected to include various accommodation types and family-friendly amenities. This approach aims to provide visitors with not just a place to stay, but a unique adventure that complements their Disney experience.
The integration of original Reflections elements holds promise for creating an engaging environment that ties back to Disney’s commitment to storytelling and innovation. Many guests express keen interest in what this new hotel will offer, drawing curiosity about its design, features, and overall theme. Excitement is palpable, as Disney enthusiasts eagerly await more news about how this project will unfold and redefine their experiences at the resort.
As this project moves forward, everyone will have the opportunity to create new memories in an environment infused with Disney’s magic and charm, ensuring that the legacy of Disney’s commitment to quality and creativity continues.
