Disney World Confirms Massive 2027 Overhaul: 7 Major Additions Reshaping Entire Resort
The countdown to 2027 is already underway at Walt Disney World.
After years of announcements, construction, and closures, several projects are approaching their debuts. Unlike years when attention falls on one park, Disney has major plans spread across the resort.
Guests will find a new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the first pieces of another at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and a transformed classic at Magic Kingdom. A new hotel will also open along Bay Lake.
Here are seven confirmed additions coming to Disney World.
Encanto Comes to Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Tropical Americas will reshape a large section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto serving as one of its biggest attractions.
The ride will bring guests inside the Casita from Encanto (2021).
The adventure takes place on the day Antonio receives his gift to communicate with animals. The Madrigal family is preparing to celebrate, and guests will join the festivities.
Guests will travel in vehicles inspired by furniture from the Madrigal home, with Casita helping bring the experience together.

Indiana Jones Takes Over a Familiar Attraction
Another major Tropical Americas attraction will occupy a familiar Animal Kingdom building.
The former DINOSAUR attraction is becoming Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent.
Rather than copying another Indiana Jones attraction, the ride will tell an original story while using the former DINOSAUR ride system and building.
Indy and guests will venture into an ancient Maya temple searching for Tsukán, the mythical Jade Serpent.
Harrison Ford will serve as the model for the Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronic figure inside the attraction.
A New Carousel Completes the Lineup
Tropical Americas isn’t only about major rides.
El Carrusel de los Animalitos will provide a family-friendly experience in Pueblo Esperanza.
The carousel will feature 22 hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories and serve as a community gathering place.
Alongside Indiana Jones and Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, the carousel will help transform the former DinoLand U.S.A. area.

Monstropolis Starts Welcoming Guests
Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have a major opening of its own.
Monstropolis, inspired by Monsters, Inc. (2001), will begin opening in phases in 2027. Work will continue on the suspended door-vault coaster, but other portions will begin welcoming guests.
The Glob Theater will host Welcome to Monstropolis, a live show featuring Mike and Sulley.
The location takes inspiration from the theater seen in Monsters, Inc. (2001).
Monsters Take Over Dining and Shopping
The Hollywood Studios expansion won’t stop with entertainment.
Harryhausen’s Restaurant will bring another recognizable location from Monsters, Inc. (2001) to life.
Guests will also find Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, adding another food option to Monstropolis.
The Scareporium will provide a dedicated merchandise location, giving guests more to explore beyond the land’s attractions and entertainment.

Carousel of Progress Returns
Magic Kingdom will also have something significant to unveil.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed in July 2026 and is expected to return in late spring 2027 following a major transformation.
Disney is updating the periods represented in the attraction. Guests will travel through the 1960s and 1980s before reaching New Year’s Eve 1999 and eventually seeing a possible future.
Walt Disney will also appear as an Audio-Animatronic figure during a new introductory scene.
With roots stretching back to the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, its return will mark a significant moment for Magic Kingdom.
Disney Opens a Massive New Resort
One of 2027’s biggest additions won’t require a theme park ticket.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will officially open July 1, 2027, along Bay Lake.
The nature-inspired resort will contain 967 rooms, ranging from studios to larger villas and waterfront Lake Houses.
Disney animation will play a major role throughout the property, with inspiration from Bambi (1942), Pocahontas (1995), Fantasia (1940), and Brother Bear (2003).
The accommodations will give couples, families, and larger groups different ways to experience Disney’s newest resort.

Disney World Will Look Different in 2027
These openings could make 2027 an exciting but complicated year for Disney World visitors.
Tropical Americas and Monstropolis could bring significant crowds to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Vacation prices could look different by the time these projects debut, too.
Still, Disney doesn’t often introduce major additions across multiple theme parks and its resort lineup within the same year.
By the end of 2027, several corners of Walt Disney World could look considerably different from October 15, 2026.
