The Walt Disney Company has decided that lights are too dangerous to be allowed in its Parks.

Last week, we reported on a tragic incident at the Disneyland Resort in Southern California when multiple Guests were struck by a collapsing light post and rushed to emergency medical aid. It has been reported that around 8:30 AM last Monday, a post toppled over a walkway near the entrance to the park and hit three people, including an elderly woman.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue transported at least one Guest to the hospital, and currently, the status of the injured is unknown. According to an eyewitness, “A light pole just fell and hit two people lined up to take pictures at the Christmas tree…We were right behind the two ladies that were hit. We had to jump out of the way. I pray the ladies are okay.”

The accident occurred near the Main Street, U.S.A. area, which was briefly shut down for workers to remove the remnants of the light post. The resort issued a statement explaining that the collapse was most likely due to strong winds, saying, “At Disneyland park this morning, due to the high winds, a light pole blew over, injuring a few guests.”

Now, it seems that Disneyland is not willing to take any more risks with light, regardless of the wind conditions. Reports indicate that light fixtures, including posts and other structures, are being removed throughout Disney Parks in California (per Yahoo). The Walt Disney Company has not officially said this was in response to the incident on Monday, but it is difficult to imagine it would be for any other reason.

The extent of the light removal is not yet known, but this will likely be a comprehensive project throughout Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

In recent years, the Walt Disney Company has struggled to maintain attendance at its various Parks in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the numerous social and political controversies that surround the House of Mouse. The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has particularly been affected by the company’s ongoing feud with Governor Ron DeSantis, which has had severe consequences for one of Disney’s most famous properties.

It also does not help that Disney has had a number of high-profile negative incidents in its theme parks, most notably the recent naked streaking of a Guest on the “It’s a Small World” ride at Disneyland. The offending man was swiftly arrested and is suspected to have been intoxicated or impaired by some substance.

Similarly, there have been reports that Disneyland Guests have been severely burned by fireworks displays, robberies of children, and many other unpleasant incidents that will likely not make the theme park more appealing to families. Hopefully, the lights will be less dangerous, though.
