Are Disney Fireworks Approaching Extinction? Fans Say Yes
These days, the attractions and spectacles that are associated with Disney vacations (particularly at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort) seem to be ever-changing.
Traditional forms of Disney and theme park entertainment are shifting position in some Disney Guests’ priority lists as new roller coasters and high-tech offerings take hold — and fireworks-loving Disney fans have most certainly noticed!
Are Disney Fireworks Phasing Out?
“Is Disneyland phasing out fireworks/pyrotechnics?” one Disneyland fan asked in the Reddit post shown below:

Goodbye Fireworks, Hello Projection Mapping
Projection mapping is a stunning visual effect used often in Disney’s shows now, especially the nighttime show called “Wondrous Journeys.” The great news is that Wondrous Journeys’ nighttime spectacular returns to Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, March 22-April 14, 2024, for a special, limited presentation.
But, regardless of the temporary return, the old-school Disney fans who love fireworks are mourning their beloved Disney World or Disneyland staple.

Reddit user GlitchyReal complained (in the post shown above) that Disney seems to be “significantly scaling back pyrotechnics and firework shows and replacing them with projections, lasers, and drones.”
Fireworks’ Not-So-Magical Effects on Animals
“Disneyland Paris started using drones,” another Disney fan chimed in, referring to the Disney Park across the pond. “People are starting to care more about the environment now, and with the fire during Fantasmic and how often the fireworks have to be canceled, it makes perfect sense.”

Even though some Disney fans still “hold the fireworks shows close to their hearts,” fireworks are indeed terrible for the environment, and they often cause extreme stress for wildlife (not to mention domestic pets like dogs, who become famously stressed on the Fourth of July due to fireworks shows). Fireworks can even confuse seriously endangered bees into losing their way and failing to find their way home to their beehives!
Fireworks can also be hazardous for Disney Guests with conditions like epilepsy, such as this Disney Guest who experienced a seizure during one of Disney’s fireworks spectacles.
Drone Company Moves to Orlando
While the future of Disney Park fireworks is still unknown, we have seen additional signs of their potential fireworks replacement.
Recently, the Disneyland Paris drone show company recently moved to Orlando, Florida. Fans believe this is a sign that a potential drone show could be in the works for Walt Disney World.
Are you still a fan of Disney fireworks, or are you happy to see Disney theme parks shifting away from their use as pyrotechnics and drones become the new staples? Let us know in the comments.
