New Update Revives Disney’s ‘Figment’ Movie After Four Years of Silence
Figment fans, unite – we may finally have an update on everyone’s favorite dragon hitting the big screen.
Updates on Disney’s planned Figment movie have been next to zero in recent years. The project was first reported in September 2022, with Seth Rogen’s Point Grey producing and Pokémon Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit attached to write.
At the time, there was no director, cast, release date, or detailed plot. In the years that followed, Disney offered virtually no public updates on the film, leaving its status increasingly unclear.
Even when Figment came up during Disney’s March 2026 annual shareholder meeting, the movie did not. CEO Josh D’Amaro praised the character’s enduring popularity and discussed other Figment projects, but made no announcement about the feature.
Seth Rogen Finally Addresses the Figment Movie
Now, one of the people originally attached to the project has finally acknowledged it again.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly while promoting Babies at the Toronto International Film Festival, Rogen confirmed that his role on Figment was behind the camera rather than in front of it.
“I wasn’t gonna star in it, we were producing it,” Rogen said.

When Entertainment Weekly asked where the movie currently stands, Rogen did not give a concrete production update. Instead, he laughed and replied, “Um, let me get back to you on that. Let me kick the tires on that one!”
Rogen then agreed that he needed to revive work on the project before adding, “I can’t tell you anything!”
The comments are limited, but they mark the first time Rogen has publicly discussed the Figment movie since it was revealed in 2022. Entertainment Weekly also reported that it contacted Disney for further information.
For now, Disney has still not announced a release date, director, cast, or start of production. Rogen’s comments stop short of confirming that cameras are preparing to roll, but they do suggest that the project has not simply disappeared without a trace.
The original 2022 report named Point Grey as the production company, with Hernandez and Samit writing. The pair’s previous credits include Pokémon Detective Pikachu, another feature built around an established character with a dedicated fanbase.
Figment Is Getting Bigger at EPCOT Too
The renewed movie talk comes as Disney is once again putting more attention on Figment inside EPCOT.
Figment debuted in Journey Into Imagination in 1983 alongside the Dreamfinder. The original attraction closed in 1998, and a heavily altered replacement opened the following year without Figment as a central character. That version lasted only until 2001.
The current Journey Into Imagination With Figment opened in 2002, bringing the dragon back into a starring role. More than two decades later, Figment remains one of EPCOT’s most recognizable characters.
The proof is in the numbers – literally. When a Figment popcorn bucket debuted during the 2022 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, guests faced waits stretching for hours. Reports at the time placed the line as up to eight hours.
A similar response followed the launch of Figment’s EPCOT meet and greet in September 2023. On its opening day, the queue reportedly reached around five hours before Disney cut off the line early.
Disney has since gone a step further. At D23 in August 2026, Neil Patrick Harris suited up to help reveal that Dreamfinder will return to EPCOT for a new Journey Into Imagination with Figment, reconnecting the character with the figure who originally created him inside the attraction’s story.
