Disney World Cast Members Reveal the Things You Should NEVER Say

Walt Disney World Resort is known for exceptional guest service. Behind every moment of magic, Disney cast members work tirelessly to create a welcoming and memorable environment. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a Disney veteran, understanding how to interact respectfully with each cast member will improve everyone’s experience.

This article highlights 10 things you should avoid saying to a Disney cast member during your visit to Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. By following these guidelines, you’ll help keep the magic alive for everyone, including the Disney cast members who make it happen.

1. “Can You Control the Weather?”

Florida weather can be unpredictable. Rainstorms and extreme heat are common, and while Disney strives to keep everything running smoothly, cast members have no control over the weather.

Instead of complaining, remember that Florida’s weather is part of the adventure. You can always take refuge in indoor attractions or enjoy the many indoor dining options.

Pro Tip: If the weather is harsh, show empathy by saying something like, “I hope you get a break soon – thank you for working through this storm!”

2. “How Hot Are Your Costumes?”

During the hot summer months, cast members in costumes work in some of the highest temperatures in the park. While you may think asking about how hot it is seems friendly, it’s likely something they’ve heard too many times–they know it’s hot without a reminder!

Instead of pointing it out, acknowledge their dedication. A kind word like “Thanks for working so hard in the heat!” can go a long way.

3. Asking the Obvious

It’s a common question, but asking, “What time is the 3 o’clock parade?” while the parade is already happening is not necessary. Most parade times are readily available on apps, in brochures, and posted throughout the park.

Before asking, take a quick glance around. If you see the parade already in progress, you’re likely in the right spot.

4. “Can I Still Ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure if the Park Is Closed?”

Attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure have specific operating hours, and once the park closes, rides are no longer available. Asking to bypass these rules is both unfair and unrealistic.

Pro Tip for Returning Guests: Be mindful of ride hours and park schedules to ensure you don’t miss out on experiences. Always plan ahead.

5. “You’re Just a College Intern, Aren’t You?”

Many cast members are college students or recent graduates working at the parks through the Disney College Program (DCP). It’s important to remember that these cast members are professionals, and dismissing them as “just interns” is disrespectful.

Instead, acknowledge their hard work. A simple “Thanks for all you do!” shows respect for their contributions, regardless of their career stage.

6. Asking for Discounts

Disney park prices are set by the company, not individual cast members. Asking for discounts or complaining about prices is unnecessary, especially since cast members have no control over them.

Pro Tip: Look for discounts or packages through an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner. They can help you find the best deals for your visit at no extra cost.

7. “Why Is the Line So Long?”

Long lines are a part of the Disney Park experience, especially during peak hours or busy seasons. Complaining about wait times doesn’t help the situation and only adds unnecessary stress.

Pro Tip for Returning Guests: Plan to arrive early or use the Lightning Lane service to skip specific lines, saving time and making your experience more enjoyable.

8. “Can I Skip the Line?”

Asking to skip the line is unfair to other Disney Park guests who are following the rules. Disney cast members are tasked with ensuring that everyone waits their turn, and any exceptions can disrupt the experience for others.

Instead, be patient and enjoy the time spent in line chatting with your group or planning your next adventure on the My Disney Experience app.

9. “This Ride Is Broken! Fix It!”

When rides break down, Disney cast members work quickly to resolve the issue. It’s understandable to feel frustrated, but yelling won’t speed up the process.

Remain calm and patient. If there’s a technical issue, Disney cast members are doing everything possible to get the ride back up and running as quickly as possible.

10. “I Paid a Lot of Money, So You Have to Make It Perfect for Me!”

Disney works hard to deliver a magical experience for all guests. However, not everything always goes as planned. Complaining that you paid for a perfect experience doesn’t help anyone, and it puts undue pressure on Disney cast members.

Instead of demanding perfection, remember that everyone, from Walt Disney World Resort cast members to other guests, is working together to make the experience enjoyable.

Keep the Magic Going

Walt Disney World is a place of joy, laughter, and, most importantly, respect. When interacting with cast members, remember they work hard to create magical experiences for everyone. Let’s keep the magic alive by treating everyone with kindness and courtesy.

And as Thumper wisely said, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
