There’s something special about hearing that familiar Indiana Jones fanfare as you step into a ride queue, and for more than a year, guests at Tokyo DisneySea haven’t had that chance. Good news, explorers: the wait is nearly over.
The Quiet Closure
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull closed on August 18, 2025, with little said about why. Month after month passed without a reopening date or an explanation, leaving fans to wonder what was going on behind the temple walls. It was a long absence for an attraction so central to the park’s identity. Temple of the Crystal Skull stands with Journey to the Center of the Earth, Tower of Terror, Soaring: Fantastic Flight, and Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey as one of the park’s biggest draws, and its absence was felt as crowds and wait times stayed high.
A Chance to Ride Before Everyone Else
The resort is also offering something extra. A special preview event will take place before the public reopening, and anyone hoping to join can apply between October 1 and October 15, 2026. Only 25 groups will be selected, for 50 lucky guests in total. Winners will enjoy an early ride, limited-time drinks, a group photo session, and more. Adventure Is Coming to Florida, Too
If Tokyo isn’t in your travel plans, Walt Disney World fans have their own Indy news to look forward to. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. into Tropical Americas, a land inspired by the cultures, wildlife, and landscapes of Central and South America.
DINOSAUR has closed to make room for Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, which is now under construction and moving along quickly. Disney first revealed the plans at D23 in 2024 and added more story details at this year’s Expo. The land will also feature an Encanto-inspired area with the Madrigal family’s Casita, along with new places to eat and shop. The attraction is currently expected to open in 2027.
Once it does, it will join Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, Tokyo DisneySea’s Temple of the Crystal Skull, and Disneyland Paris’s Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril in Disney’s growing lineup of Indy adventures.
Tokyo visitors should plan on the ride being available from November 30, and it’s worth applying for the preview if your dates line up. Florida fans can start dreaming about 2027.
