Surprise! Disney Promises New Splash Mountain Ride This Summer

Just when fans thought Splash Mountain had disappeared forever, Disney is bringing it back—well, sort of. Tokyo Disneyland has announced a fresh twist on the classic log flume ride, debuting this summer as part of its Summer Cool-Off event. While it’s not a brand-new attraction, the Japanese Disney park is promising a significantly updated experience that puts Splash Mountain back in the spotlight, at least temporarily.

Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida permanently closed their versions of Splash Mountain in 2024, replacing them with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The rethemed attraction, based on The Princess and the Frog (2009), invites guests to help Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), and friends plan a festive New Orleans celebration. The retheme followed years of controversy surrounding Splash Mountain’s ties to Song of the South (1946), a film criticized for its whitewashed depiction of post-Civil War Southern life and harmful racial stereotypes.
However, Tokyo Disneyland—operated by the Oriental Land Company under license from Disney—was not subject to the same closure decisions. That means its version of Splash Mountain is the last one still operating, and now, it’s getting a seasonal upgrade.
As part of 2025’s Summer Cool-Off event, guests at Tokyo Disneyland can experience “Get Soaked MAX Plus,” a refreshed overlay that amps up the water effects in a big way. Building on the park’s previous “Get Soaked MAX” version of the ride, this new edition will deliver even more splashy surprises, including water blasts aimed at both riders and nearby guests who aren’t even on the attraction.

The Summer Cool-Off event runs from July 2 through September 15, 2025, across Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. It includes more than just Splash Mountain updates—Aquatopia will feature its own “Get Soaked” mode, and various splash zones will pop up around Toontown, Adventureland, Harbor Splash, and the Caldera Corridor.
