Special Immersive Screening of ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Will Involve Actors

PenBay Pilot has reported that Rockport Public Library is offering families a festive experience this holiday season with a special showing of The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Unlike typical screenings, the event, which is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, will involve interactive elements that immerse attendees in the world of Charles Dickens’ London. Costumed performers will circulate among guests, including one portraying Dickens himself, and visitors can also enjoy hot cocoa and baked goods while mingling in a space transformed for the occasion (although, sadly, it doesn’t sound like there will be any Muppets — at least not off the screen).

Guests are even invited to wear pajamas or Victorian-style clothing!

But as spaces are limited, booking is encouraged — if, of course, you happen to live near that particular venue, which we appreciate is unlikely! Either way, between Dickens wandering the library, the aroma of cocoa, and the Muppets’ antics on screen, the screening promises a holiday experience that blends joy, imagination, and tradition.

And even if it’s nowhere near you, there are other types of screenings of The Muppet Christmas Carol taking place now, including a sing-along version at the Prince Charles Cinema in London’s West End, and live orchestra performances throughout the UK.

The beloved 1992 film’s enduring charm lies in its balance of humor, music, and heart. The Muppets’ take on Scrooge’s story has delighted generations, and this event encourages participants to engage with the story in a pretty hands-on way.

This unique take on the film also leaves us wondering what a full-scale 4D-style screening could look like—complete with life-sized Muppets, moving set pieces, and environmental effects that bring the streets of Dickens’ London to life like never before.

For now, we can but dream. For more information on the upcoming event, contact 207‑236‑3642.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is also streaming on Disney+. The film stars Kermit the Frog/Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy/Emily Cratchit, The Great Gonzo/Charles Dickens/Narrator, Fozzie Bear/Fozziewig, and Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine).
