Report: Marvel Planning ‘Spider-Man’ Theatrical Re-Release Ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Spider-Man has already conquered the box office in 2026. Apparently, that may not be the end of his theatrical run.

A new report claims a particular Spider-Man movie could return to theaters in an expanded form. This re-release could potentially give audiences previously unseen footage.

And the timing makes the possibility much more interesting.

Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026) just delivered an $86 million worldwide weekend after returning to theaters. Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) is only a few months away.

There is no confirmation that these developments are connected. Still, Marvel just saw audiences spend millions to revisit one blockbuster while looking ahead to another. Now, Spider-Man could get his own encore.

If that happens, Sony and Marvel would have another major theatrical event on their hands at a time when attention is already turning toward the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And unlike a standard re-release, the promise of footage audiences haven’t seen before could make this feel like more than another trip to the theater.

Spider-Man Is Closing In on Another Massive Milestone

A re-release certainly wouldn’t be an attempt to save Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).

The movie has already earned approximately $2.495 billion worldwide, including $950.7 million in North America. That makes it the highest-grossing movie ever domestically and places it third among the biggest movies worldwide.

It’s also Sony’s highest-grossing movie ever.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) previously held that distinction after earning approximately $1.92 billion globally. Brand New Day has blown past that total and remains in theaters.

Now, $2.5 billion sits within reach.

An expanded theatrical version could give fans another reason to buy tickets while potentially carrying the movie beyond that mark.

And Marvel fans just proved they’re willing to return when a familiar movie offers something different.

Endgame Found a Huge Audience Again

Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026) returned to theaters with expanded material and generated $86 million worldwide, including $26 million domestically.

That performance pushed the movie’s lifetime global total to approximately $2.885 billion. It still sits behind Avatar (2009), which has earned approximately $2.92 billion worldwide.

The additional box-office money wasn’t the only benefit.

Marvel also used the Endgame return to promote Avengers: Doomsday (2026), giving fans another Avengers experience before the next movie arrives on December 18.

That creates an interesting backdrop for the reported Spider-Man plans.

Deleted Footage Could Bring Back Claire Temple

If the reported re-release happens, audiences may not simply get the same version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).

Sources claim additional footage would be included, with Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple among the material that could finally reach theaters.

Dawson portrayed Claire in Daredevil (2015), Jessica Jones (2015), Luke Cage (2016), Iron Fist (2017), and The Defenders (2017). The character regularly helped Marvel’s street-level heroes when they needed medical assistance.

Dawson previously revealed that she filmed a scene for Brand New Day, but filmmakers ultimately left it out of the theatrical version.

A new cut could finally restore it.

Reports also suggest other surprises could appear, which opens the door to bigger questions about what an expanded version might contain.

Doomsday Makes the Timing More Interesting

Nothing currently confirms that Claire Temple’s deleted scene connects to Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

Her appearance also doesn’t mean Dawson will appear in Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

Marvel could simply restore the deleted footage, as it would give people another reason to watch Brand New Day. Bringing back Claire Temple would already offer something fans couldn’t see during the movie’s original theatrical run.

But other additional scenes could potentially carry more significance.

Marvel could expand existing storylines, add context to the end-credit scenes, or include material that becomes more important once Doomsday arrives.

Even a brief conversation involving Spider-Man’s future, another hero, or the Multiverse could give audiences something new to discuss before December 18.

Of course, the extra material could have absolutely nothing to do with the Avengers.

Marvel Just Saw This Strategy Work

That’s what makes the reported re-release interesting, even without a confirmed Doomsday connection.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) is already approaching $2.5 billion in sales. Previously unseen footage gives audiences an incentive to return, and Claire Temple provides an established character fans didn’t get in the theatrical cut.

At the same time, Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026) just turned an older Marvel blockbuster into another $86 million global event.

Now, Spider-Man may get a similar opportunity.

Maybe the expanded version simply extends an already historic box-office run. Maybe Marvel finds a way to plant another clue about what comes next.

Either way, the timing gives fans plenty to watch as Avengers: Doomsday (2026) gets closer.
