Marvel Comics has revealed “Crisis of Faith,” a crossover event from writers Bryan Hill and Joe Kelly that will place the two Spider-Men on opposing sides. The story leads a wider slate of web-slinging titles unveiled at New York Comic Con, where the publisher made it clear that next year belongs to Spider-Man and his Multiverse of allies.

The announcement arrived during Saturday’s “Marvel Comics: The Spider-Web” panel. Alongside the crossover, Marvel confirmed solo series for Spider-Punk and Spider-Man: Noir, as well as a brand-new anthology titled “Marvel SFX: Thwip.”

Why Peter and Miles Are Breaking Ranks

The creative pairing behind “Crisis of Faith” is a significant part of its appeal. Hill previously wrote “Miles Morales: Spider-Man,” while Kelly has penned “Amazing Spider-Man,” meaning each writer arrives with firsthand experience guiding one half of the central conflict.

Editor Nick Lowe framed the event as a turning point for a relationship that has long been defined by mutual trust.

“Since Miles and Peter first met in Spider-Men way back in 2012, they’ve been each other’s support system. Everything changes in April,” Lowe said (via Comic Book Movie). “Peter has been getting more and more risky with his choices since Hellgate punched him into space. Some of those will get uncovered, and Miles is not pleased.”

The tension will not run in only one direction. According to Lowe, Peter has reasons of his own to be concerned.

“…Miles has been keeping some strange and questionable company of late that Peter does not approve of,” Lowe continued. “That, however, is just the tip of the iceberg, and Joe Kelly and Bryan Edward Hill are cooking up some magic on this crossover!”

Marvel teased the event with a striking image from artist Ryan Stegman, with further details expected in the months ahead.

The Rest of Marvel’s 2027 Spider-Slate

Before Peter and Miles square off, Hobie Brown takes the spotlight. “Spider-Punk #1” launches in January, reuniting writer Cody Ziglar with artist Justin Mason, while Taurin Clarke handles covers. The series follows Hobie as he searches for his missing bandmates, a quest that brings him face-to-face with a new villain called Mz. Negative.

February ushers in a new “Spider-Man: Noir” run from writer Alex Segura and artist Farid Karami. This time, the hard-boiled Peter is pulled into a case involving a mysterious underworld artifact, his new girlfriend’s ex, and Venom Noir.

Rounding out the lineup, “Marvel SFX: Thwip” will feature stories from Jed MacKay, Stephen Graham Jones, and Rainbow Rowell, with additional creators set to contribute to later issues.

The Spider-Verse Effect

Marvel’s commitment to Spider-Man Variants reflects how much the character’s Multiverse has grown in the public imagination, driven in large part by Sony’s animated Spider-Verse films. Those movies turned Miles into one of Marvel’s most popular heroes. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) set a Sony animation record with just over $690 million worldwide.

The trilogy’s conclusion now has a firm place on the calendar. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was initially delayed by three weeks, from June 4 to June 25, 2027, before being moved up to June 18, 2027, aligning it with Father’s Day weekend. With “Crisis of Faith” also arriving in 2027, the comic event lands in the same year that Miles returns to theaters.

Spider-Man’s Live-Action Momentum

The publishing push follows a banner summer for the character on the big screen. Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) earned more than $2.5 billion worldwide, delivering a much-needed lift to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film climbed the list of highest-grossing movies of all time and took the top spot among domestic releases, overtaking J. J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens (2015).

Tom Holland led the cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, joined by Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher. The film also brought mutants into the MCU proper, with Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey playing a central role. Whether those characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) remains unconfirmed, though Sink’s place in the franchise appears set to be pivotal.

At this year’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed more of the X-Men cast: Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe/Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury, among others. Jake Schreier, director of 2025’s Thunderbolts*, is attached to direct.

Holland’s next MCU appearance remains the subject of speculation, with many fans expecting him to feature in the Russo Brothers’ two-part Avengers event. Until then, the comics will keep the webs spinning.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
