When you think of EPCOT, you might picture the stunning World Showcase or perhaps the exciting new experiences like Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. But visitors are beginning to notice another hidden gem—the SeaBase aquarium at EPCOT’s The Seas Pavilion.
This large aquatic exhibit is home to fascinating marine life, and recently, it gained a new resident who’s quickly capturing hearts. If you’re a fan of EPCOT’s most adorable inhabitants, it’s time to meet Tanimura, the newest juvenile manatee to join the family!

The Seas Pavilion has long been a spot for guests to explore marine life in a meaningful way. Not only does it feature a variety of aquatic creatures that visitors encounter on the iconic The Seas With Nemo & Friends ride, but it also offers a hands-on, educational experience.
It’s here that the SeaBase Aquarium plays a central role in animal rehabilitation, helping injured sea creatures get the care they need before they’re returned to their natural habitats.
A New Chapter for the Manatees
EPCOT’s SeaBase aquarium has been home to a variety of manatees over the years, many of whom have become beloved figures at Disney World. Manatees, often known as “sea cows,” are gentle giants, and visitors can’t help but fall in love with their serene demeanor and playful antics.

While the aquarium has hosted manatees for some time, the recent arrival of Tanimura is drawing special attention.
Tanimura is a juvenile manatee weighing around 300 pounds and has quickly become a fan favorite. Although the exact age of Tanimura is unknown, manatees are generally considered juveniles until they reach five years of age.
The little manatee joins other residents, Cider and Mermaid, both of whom are part of the rehabilitation efforts taking place at the SeaBase aquarium.

These manatees are in need of care and rehabilitation before they can either return to the wild or, as with some, live out their days in a safe environment.
Just a few months ago, fans bid farewell to the beloved manatees Iñigo and Lil Joe, who had been part of the EPCOT family for a long time. Unfortunately, they couldn’t be released back into the wild, but they’ve now moved to the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, where they’ll continue to live in a more permanent, comfortable environment.
Their departure left a big hole, but EPCOT’s team is constantly working to bring in new animals, and Tanimura is the latest in this ever-evolving story.

What’s Next for These Adorable Residents?
While EPCOT guests may not know exactly how long Cider, Mermaid, and Tanimura will stay at SeaBase, it’s clear that their time there is being cherished. Disney is dedicated to the care of these incredible animals and continues to raise awareness about marine conservation through their efforts.
Guests who want to see Tanimura, Cider, and Mermaid are encouraged to book their Disney trip as soon as possible, as manatees do not stay at SeaBase for extended periods.
And while Tanimura’s stay at EPCOT is still ongoing, it’s heartwarming to know that Disney’s commitment to the rehabilitation of these animals continues. Fans will be able to watch Tanimura’s progress, and who knows—perhaps one day, she’ll return to the wild, just like her predecessors.
