More Closures Take Over EPCOT’s World Showcase Location

Construction work is becoming increasingly difficult to miss at EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion, with Disney introducing even more temporary closures as refurbishment efforts continue throughout the World Showcase destination.

Since opening alongside EPCOT in 1982, the Germany Pavilion has offered guests a recreation of a traditional German village complete with detailed architecture, cobblestone walkways, themed shopping, and dining experiences such as Biergarten Restaurant. One of the pavilion’s signature retail locations is Stein Haus, known for its collection of German steins, ornaments, glassware, and imported gifts.

Refurbishment first became noticeable several weeks ago when Disney installed rolling planters, construction walls, scrim, and scaffolding around the entrance to Stein Haus. Since then, the project has expanded to include the building’s upper-level balcony, decorative staircase, and the pavilion’s recognizable “Stein Haus” sign.

Despite the visible construction, Stein Haus has continued welcoming guests through alternate entrances, including the nearby Weinkeller access point. Disney has not shared details about the project’s scope or when the work is expected to wrap up.

The construction footprint has continued to grow elsewhere in the pavilion. Earlier this week, both Der Teddybar and Volkskunst temporarily closed without prior notice, with construction walls blocking access to the connected merchandise locations. Although guests can still enter Stein Haus through alternative routes, the number of shopping options available inside Germany has been reduced while refurbishment continues.

Another guest amenity has now been added to the list of closures. According to reports, the Germany Pavilion restrooms have closed for refurbishment, with visitors directed to nearby facilities during the work. The latest closure means guests visiting the pavilion will encounter multiple temporary disruptions, making the area feel noticeably different from its usual appearance.

The Germany Pavilion project is one of several maintenance efforts currently taking place around EPCOT. While Disney officially completed the park’s years-long transformation that introduced the World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature neighborhoods, routine refurbishment has continued across World Showcase as the resort maintains its original pavilions.

Recently amended Orange County permit documents also indicate the Germany Pavilion project is expected to continue for some time. Disney has revised an existing Notice of Commencement tied to general construction at 1750 Avenue of the Stars, an address associated with EPCOT. The updated filing lists MSG Legacy, Inc., doing business as RSS Roofing Services and Solutions Florida, as the contractor and extends the legal notice through January 29, 2027, unless construction finishes earlier or another amendment is submitted.

Although Notices of Commencement do not outline the exact work being performed, they are required before construction projects begin or continue in Florida and often signal that work remains active. The filing does not identify specific improvements inside the Germany Pavilion, but the timing closely matches the growing amount of visible construction surrounding Stein Haus and the expanding list of temporary closures.

With the contractor specializing in roofing and exterior construction, the permit appears to match the refurbishment currently visible throughout the pavilion. Disney has not announced any major overhaul of Germany, and nothing currently suggests a large-scale reimagining is planned. Instead, the ongoing work appears to be focused on maintaining one of EPCOT’s opening-day World Showcase pavilions while allowing as much of the guest experience to remain available as possible.

He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
