A former collaborator has accused Renner of sexual misconduct, prompting sharp public reaction. The allegations challenge the narrative of calm, steady recovery and have reintroduced past questions about the actor’s personal conduct and power dynamics around him. Renner has now issued a denial.
Allegations Made by Yi Zhou
Filmmaker Yi Zhou, who worked with Renner on multiple ongoing projects, alleged that the Marvel star sent her unsolicited explicit images and presented himself as both romantic partner and professional collaborator. She claimed the dynamic escalated during a visit to his home.
Zhou said she feared for her safety. She stated that she locked herself in a room and shared her location with her team. Screenshots posted to social media appeared to show colleagues urging her to leave the property.
She said she felt “used” professionally and personally. Zhou alleged that when she confronted Renner about what she believed was mistreatment, he threatened to contact immigration authorities. She described the experience as an example of “imbalance of power” in the entertainment industry.
Zhou has continued posting material related to her account. On Instagram, she wrote, “The denial is bad conduct given all the documents and communications produced.” She also posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp message featuring a pornographic GIF she claims was sent by Renner.
She shared additional images showing messages exchanged with friends the night of the alleged incident. One caption read, “Receipts @nypost @usweekly @rollingstone @nypost, also sharing the room and bath I locked myself in to avoid any more aggression. I chose to stay to finish the project the next day … and stupidly believed in the healing power of love and in true love.”
Jeremy Renner Issues Denial Through Representative
Renner’s representative responded to Variety, stating, “The allegations being made are totally inaccurate and untrue.” No additional on-the-record statement has been made by Renner himself.
The new claims follow past accusations made during Renner’s custody dispute with ex-wife Sonni Pacheco. She previously alleged abusive behavior. Renner denied those allegations, calling them exaggerated and misleading. The two currently share joint custody of their daughter.
The allegations emerge while Renner considers future Marvel work. He recently said the studio approached him about a potential second season of Hawkeye, but he claimed the offer was “half” of his prior salary. He suggested his injuries may have influenced negotiations, while expressing interest in returning once fully recovered.
