“We really try to foster as much play as we can,” Docter shared, pointing out that these lighthearted moments dismantle fear and nurture bold, innovative ideas. “That’s when the best work happens.”

“We have to find out what people want before they know it,” Docter said. “Because if we just gave them more of what they know, we’d be making Toy Story 27.”

“That’s been very productive,” he noted. “It’s not jeopardizing anybody’s job or anything like that.” “As I look at it, it’s an exciting new tool.”
He elaborated on the unique value of human creativity, emphasizing, “[AI] is not going to replace all of us because there is something about the human condition—that’s the reason we go to movies, it’s why we read or sing or listen to music—we’re trying to connect with each other, and I think you can just sense that when it’s not there.”

Recent animation projects have leveraged AI to enhance natural elements like fire and water, seamlessly integrating these effects into character designs. By automating repetitive tasks, AI enables animators to concentrate on crafting stories that resonate deeply with audiences.
