Big Change at Disneyland – Lucasfilm Fans, Listen Up!

Disneyland Resort abruptly closed its Indiana Jones Adventure ride last week, disappointing countless Lucasfilm fans who came to experience the attraction.

Adventureland at Disneyland Park has been home to the Indiana Jones Adventure since 1995. The ride quickly became a favorite for Disney parkgoers, featuring cutting-edge technology and unforgettable thrills. However, many guests may not realize that when the ride first debuted, Disney had not yet acquired Lucasfilm. The attraction was one of the first major collaborations between the Disney parks and George Lucas, marking the beginning of a longstanding partnership.

Since then, Disney and Lucasfilm have had an ongoing relationship, with Indiana Jones Adventure standing as one of the most enduring symbols of this collaboration. The ride’s unique attraction system has only been used on one other Disney Park attraction, DINOSAUR. As part of the upcoming Pueblo Esperanza expansion at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, the beloved ride system will receive a new twist: an all-new Indiana Jones reimagination of DINOSAUR.

In 2023, Disneyland Resort closed Indiana Jones Adventure for a three-month-long refurbishment, a lengthy shutdown that allowed the team to repair long-broken special effects and perform essential maintenance. However, like most Disney Park attractions, Indiana Jones Adventure isn’t immune to technical issues. The ride continues to experience interruptions, even after its recent refurbishments.

Just last week, a guest at Disneyland Resort shared their unexpected experience on Indiana Jones Adventure, which abruptly shut down mid-ride. The ride was evacuated, and Disney cast members swiftly helped guests off the ride vehicles. The guest, a TikTok user named @pixiepr1ncessbritt, posted a video documenting the unexpected interruption.

After waiting 30 minutes to board the ride and missing it during a previous Disneyland visit due to a “temporary closure,” the group finally made it on the attraction, only for it to shut down halfway through. Guests were left sitting in the ride vehicle as overhead lights turned on and Disney cast members began the evacuation protocol. Thankfully, everyone appears to have safely evacuated the attraction.

“This is super weird,” the TikToker said in the video. “It’s silent and the lights are on.”

Despite the disruption, the guest maintained a positive attitude about the situation. “The nerd in me secretly enjoys seeing the behind the scenes on the rides!” they added.

Disneyland Resort typically does not publicly share details about minor technical issues with attractions. However, Indiana Jones Adventure reopened and was running smoothly soon after the evacuation.
