Disney Makes Last Minute Change to Disneyland Operations, Effective Today

Disney made an operational change at Disneyland today, adjusting how one of its most closely watched attractions is presented to guests with immediate effect.

The update applies to the Main Street Opera House, where scheduling has shifted for a show that has drawn sustained attention since its debut. The change took effect as the park opened on February 13.

At the center of the update is Walt Disney – A Magical Life, which premiered in 2024 as a tribute to the company’s founder. The show features a highly advanced Audio-Animatronic figure paired with restored archival recordings of Walt Disney’s voice.

Disney has described the attraction as “a cinematic journey tracing Walt’s life from his early endeavors to the bright lights of Los Angeles and beyond.” From its announcement, the project was positioned as both a historical presentation and a technical milestone.

Unlike most Audio-Animatronic figures in the park, the subject here is inseparable from Disney’s modern identity. That distinction placed immediate pressure on the figure’s realism and presentation.

Reaction following the debut was mixed. Some guests praised the ambition and tone of the show. Others questioned whether the animatronic accurately captured Walt Disney’s appearance.

“There is an uncanny valley vibe to it,” one Reddit user wrote. “His eyes are not spaced properly and I feel a little too small. His face feels scrunched as Walt in his later years had a longer face profile.”

Another commenter added, “I don’t know who that is but it’s not Walt Disney. You’d think that his company would get his face right.”

Disney did not publicly respond to the criticism or signal any revisions to the figure itself. Instead, it proceeded with operational plans that had been outlined before the attraction opened.

A Planned Schedule Change Takes Effect

As of today, Walt Disney – A Magical Life is no longer running continuously at the Main Street Opera House.

The show now rotates with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, a structure Disney had previously stated was always intended, though without confirming when it would begin.

Under the new schedule, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln runs from park opening until 1:30 p.m. Walt Disney – A Magical Life begins performances at 2 p.m. and continues through park close.

The change restores Lincoln to a daily presence after several months in which Walt Disney – A Magical Life ran as the sole offering in the venue.

Disney has framed the Opera House as a rotating historical space rather than a replacement-driven attraction. The delayed implementation, however, led some guests to assume the Lincoln show had been sidelined indefinitely.

The timing is notable. Implementing the change less than a year after the debut gives the update a sense of urgency, even as Disney maintains it was part of the original plan.

The revised schedule also reduces the number of hours the Walt Disney attraction is presented each day, repositioning it as a more limited experience.

What This Signals for Walt Disney World

The Disneyland update comes as Disney continues planning a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic for the East Coast.

During the “Creating the Happiest Place on Earth” panel at D23 in 2025, Disney Imagineer Chris Beatty confirmed that Walt Disney will be integrated into Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom.

No timeframe has been announced. A refurbishment for the attraction is not currently listed on the Walt Disney World Resort calendar.

Speculation increased earlier this year after Disney filed a permit related to maintenance changes within the Carousel of Progress theater.

Some fans believe the permit could signal groundwork for future modifications, potentially including the addition of Walt Disney to the attraction.

Others expect Disney to wait until D23 to outline a broader plan for the long-running Tomorrowland show.

Disney has previously emphasized continuity rather than replacement. In August 2025, the Disney Parks Blog teased upcoming updates without detailing the scope.

“There are still plenty of additional details to be revealed, including what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family are up to,” the blog wrote. “Disney Imagineers love this attraction and the heart of it will stay the same while introducing the Carousel of Progress to an entirely new generation of fans, showing them that a great big, beautiful tomorrow is just a dream away.”
