Disney World Shutters Iconic Bar, Leaving a Void in Adult Nightlife Scene

Another piece of Disney nightlife history has quietly taken its final bow.

A large sign with a red arrow and white text saying "TO THE BOARDWALK - SHOWPLACE OF THE SHORE" is painted on a wall with horizontal beige siding. Additional, partially visible text with the word "Vacation" appears below the main sign, evoking the charm of a Disney Restaurant at Walt Disney World.

Jellyrolls, the longtime dueling piano bar at Disney’s BoardWalk, officially closed on April 19 after over two decades of nightly performances. Known for its sing-alongs, quick-witted pianists, and boisterous bar crowd, the venue was a staple for adult visitors looking to unwind away from the theme park crowds.

Though the closure was announced in advance, the final night was packed with longtime fans hoping to say goodbye to a venue many described as “one of the only adult spaces left” on Walt Disney World property.

A fan on Reddit shared details from that last night, writing:

“The line was (of course) crazy long. Me and my group waited about 2.5 hours. We snagged some seats and enjoyed the night. They closed out normal affairs around 12:30am. Then Scotty emcee’d and introduced all 8 players (including himself) one by one with the date that they started playing at Jellyrolls, and they each sang a song of their choosing. Then, all the players came onstage and sang the final 2 songs of the night.”

“The second to last song played for the night was Piano Man (of course). Jellyrolls’ final song at the BoardWalk? Drumroll please… My Life by Billy Joel! They closed out with the first song ever played at Jellyrolls.”

The emotional send-off concluded with the staff joining guests in celebration—and tears—as the lights dimmed one final time.

What This Means for the Disney BoardWalk

Jellyrolls’ departure marks the latest change for Disney’s BoardWalk area, which has been undergoing quiet transformations over the past year. With Big River Grille & Brewing Works also closing earlier in 2024, and ongoing construction at the BoardWalk Inn and Screen Door General Store, the once-bustling promenade now hosts several vacant locations with no announced replacements.

That’s left fans wondering if Disney has bigger plans for the area, particularly as nightlife options dwindle. For years, Jellyrolls was the go-to for post-EPCOT entertainment. With only the seldom-used Atlantic Dance Hall left, BoardWalk evenings may begin to feel a little emptier.

Other Nightlife Options for Adults at Disney World

While Jellyrolls was one-of-a-kind, guests looking for some evening entertainment away from the parks still have options across Walt Disney World:

  • Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto (Polynesian Village Resort): An immersive tiki bar experience with secret menu items and interactive effects.

  • The Edison (Disney Springs): A 1920s industrial-themed lounge that features live music, burlesque-style performers, and creative cocktails.

  • Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar (Disney Springs): Indiana Jones-themed bar with themed décor and specialty drinks.

  • AbracadaBar (BoardWalk): A moody lounge inspired by magicians of the golden age, located right near where Jellyrolls stood.

  • Rose & Crown Pub (EPCOT): Classic British pints and a warm pub feel with lakeside views of the fireworks.

Still, there’s no denying the unique energy Jellyrolls brought to Disney nights. For many, it was a tradition, a rite of passage, and an escape from the crowds.

Its closing leaves a quiet echo—and a big pair of piano keys to fill.

  1. Disney has, it seems, has made a coordinated effort to reduce cast member numbers, particularly those involved with entertaining guests. This is just another in a long list of closed establishments, none more grievous than the closure of The Adventurers Club, many long years ago. While a few reminders still exist at Trader Sam’s, the entertainment aspect is long gone.

    1. Agree, The Adventurer’s Club was an amazing club full of Disney Magic you never tired of . Now Jelly Rolls????? Some things you just don’t mess with!
