Disney World Restores Expedition Everest Single Rider Sign After Sudden Removal

Guests arriving at Expedition Everest over the weekend may have noticed something important missing from the attraction’s entrance.

The familiar Single Rider sign had been removed, immediately raising questions about whether Disney World had made another operational change at the popular Animal Kingdom roller coaster.

There was just one catch: Single Rider never actually closed.

Even with the sign gone Sunday morning, guests could still use the separate queue. By later that same day, Disney had reversed the visible change and returned the sign to its normal location.

The unusual situation comes as Expedition Everest’s Single Rider system has already become a little more complicated for guests.

The Expedition Everest Sign Suddenly Disappeared

Single Rider has long been an option at Expedition Everest for guests willing to split from their party.

Rather than joining the traditional standby queue, individual riders enter a separate line. Cast Members can then use those guests to fill empty seats that would otherwise remain vacant.

For years, it was also one of Animal Kingdom’s better-known strategies for potentially avoiding a lengthy standby wait.

That’s why the missing sign caught attention.

The Single Rider entrance sign disappeared several days ago and remained absent on Sunday July 26 morning. Without it, guests unfamiliar with the attraction could easily assume Disney had stopped offering the queue.

That wasn’t what happened.

Even while the sign was missing Sunday, Cast Members continued allowing guests to use Single Rider. Guests who knew the queue existed could ask about it and still enter.

Disney had not eliminated the option. The attraction was essentially operating Single Rider without the usual signage telling guests where to go.

Disney Returned the Sign Sunday Afternoon

The situation changed again later Sunday.

Disney reinstalled the Single Rider entrance sign during the operating day. The sign returned to its familiar location near the standby entrance, and an “Open” placard once again made it clear that guests could use the queue.

According to reports from BlogMickey, the sign had been damaged and was returned after repairs.

That makes the entire situation much less dramatic than it initially appeared.

Instead of signaling the end of Single Rider at Expedition Everest, the removal appears to have been a temporary maintenance issue.

Still, the timing was interesting because Disney has made other operational adjustments affecting the queue.

Single Rider Isn’t Necessarily the Shortcut It Once Was

While the sign is back, the experience itself has changed.

Expedition Everest now uses an odds-and-evens sorting procedure within the standby queue. Cast Members organize standby parties based on group size, helping them fill more available seats without relying as heavily on guests waiting in Single Rider.

That can create an unexpected problem.

Single Rider guests may wait considerably longer than they remember.

In the past, someone might enter Single Rider hoping to board Expedition Everest within 10 or 15 minutes. The current system can reduce how frequently Cast Members need to pull guests from that separate queue.

That means choosing Single Rider isn’t necessarily the fastest option anymore.

Guests also need to remember that Disney can split up everyone in their group when they choose Single Rider. The line exists to fill available seats, not to provide groups with a shorter version of standby.

What Guests Should Know Going Forward

For anyone heading to Animal Kingdom, the important news is that Expedition Everest’s Single Rider queue remains available.

Disney never stopped running it Sunday, even when the entrance sign was missing.

The sign has since returned, making the option much easier for guests to spot again.

There is currently no indication that Disney intends to permanently remove Single Rider from Expedition Everest. Instead, this appears to have been a temporary signage repair that happened to create some confusion.

The bigger change involves how quickly that queue moves.

Guests who haven’t visited Animal Kingdom recently shouldn’t automatically expect Single Rider to deliver the dramatic time savings it once could. Depending on how Cast Members are loading trains and sorting standby parties, the separate line could move much slower than expected.

For a few days, though, the missing sign made the future of the queue look considerably more uncertain.

By Sunday afternoon, Disney had provided an answer.

Expedition Everest’s Single Rider sign is back, the queue remains open, and guests can continue using the option at Animal Kingdom.
