Disney World Resort Under Construction Into 2027, Guests Affected
Nobody books a Disney vacation to look at construction walls.
Obvious, but worth stating, because refurbishments at Walt Disney World almost always get framed as good news. New flooring. Updated fixtures. Fresh paint. All true, all eventually a benefit.
What gets skipped is that somebody is staying at that resort right now, paying for the room, walking past plywood to grab a bottle of water.
That is Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort at the moment. Per WDW News Today, the gift shop refurbishment at Donald’s Double Feature has moved into the back half of the store.
The front half is done. It looks noticeably different. Which is where the argument starts.

What Changed
Per WDW News Today’s reporting on the finished front section:
- New hard flooring in light woodgrain and gray tiles, replacing blue carpet with a white geometric pattern
- Walls painted white, replacing blue and woodgrain decorative paneling
- Shelf dividers are now bright blue instead of darker blue
- Wall shelves changed from dark blue to brown wood
Standalone floor displays look unchanged.
What Disney Guests Are Dealing With
Not severe, but real.
Construction walls with quote signs seal off the back half of the store, so guests are shopping in roughly half the usual space.
Exterior doors are closed, with A-frame signs pushing everyone toward the main entrance.
Disney’s notice says Donald’s Double Feature is in a phased refurbishment through late August and stays open throughout.
The Part That Matters More
The gift shop is visible. It is not what will affect the most people.
Disney’s notice also states guest rooms at All-Star Movies are under planned refurbishment through January 2027.
During that window, guests may see or hear construction work, and alternate paths of travel may be in place.
That is months longer than the shop work and it hits anyone booking this resort well into next year. Better to know before you book than at check-in.

Why Disney Fans Are Annoyed
Here is where this stops being routine.
Blue carpet with a geometric pattern became gray tile and light woodgrain. Blue and woodgrain paneling became white walls. Dark blue shelving became brown wood.
That is not maintenance. That is a deliberate move toward lighter, more neutral, more contemporary, and it matches the direction Disney has been taking across its resorts.
For a hotel whose whole identity is whimsical, larger-than-life decor saluting Disney films, from the dotted pups of 101 Dalmatians to the toys of Andy’s Room, neutral tones land as a genuine character change.
This Complaint Predates the Disney Gift Shop
Fans have been making this argument for years, and not about All-Star Movies specifically.
“I just hate this ultra modern Gensler sterilized crap they keep churning out for the hotels,” wrote X user mr__blueskyofc. “The rooms across property all feel basically the same wherever you stay with the exception of a few slight decorative enhancements. I don’t know, the days of the themed hotel just feel over. I expect this from Universal and Lowes, not Disney.”
User chazfinder went after a different project. “Why is modern Disney so desperate on creating bland, overly corporate shoe box hotels? It’s mind blowing the downgrade in quality over the last decade.”
And user itisbosstime offered a motive. “Disney is killing the magic in the hotels and parks with choosing this modern look. I feel they do it to pinch pennies. The idea being that they won’t have to remodel as frequent. Every new store or hotel room is just lifeless now.”
Those are about the wider trend rather than this shop, which explains why new flooring at a Value resort generates any discussion at all.

The Case For It
Being fair, there is one.
Hard flooring outlasts carpet and stays cleaner in a high-traffic retail space, especially in Central Florida humidity. Lighter walls make a small store feel bigger. Neutral fixtures let merchandise stand out instead of competing with the room.
And the old look was arguably dated. Blue carpet with a white geometric pattern is not timeless.
Whether that trade is worth losing the character is the actual disagreement.
It Is Happening Everywhere at Disney
Maestro Mickey’s at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort got refurbished last year.
Two of the three All-Star resorts have now received gift shop updates, which makes the All-Star Sports Resort next and those similar likely to be next one. Disney has not announced anything.
Booked There?
Gift shop work runs through late August, and the shop stays open.
Guest room refurbishment continues through January 2027, with possible construction noise and rerouted paths.
Staying at All-Star Movies between now and early next year? The resort is running normally. You will just be sharing it with a construction project.
