Disney World Makes Sudden Change to Halloween Fireworks After Jack Skellington Breaks
Disney World’s Halloween celebrations are filled with spooky surprises, but one recent performance at Magic Kingdom featured something nobody expected.
During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, guests watched as one of the park’s most recognizable Halloween characters experienced a rather unfortunate mishap.

Jack Skellington, who serves as the host of Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, suddenly lost part of his arm while appearing in front of the audience.
The unexpected moment was captured on video, and Disney’s entertainment team had to change how the character appeared later in the show.
Disney Guests Watch Jack Skellington’s Arm Fall Off
Every Halloween season, thousands of Disney fans visit Magic Kingdom to experience Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
One of the event’s biggest attractions is Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, a nighttime fireworks show featuring projections, music, and familiar Disney characters.
Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) is one of the stars of the production.
Instead of appearing as a traditional costumed performer, Jack comes to life through a massive puppet controlled by Disney’s entertainment team.

However, during a recent performance, something went wrong.
As Jack introduced the fireworks spectacular, a section of his left arm detached from the puppet and dropped to the ground.
The unexpected malfunction was caught on camera by DisneyWorldTom, who later shared the footage on Instagram.

The video shows the moment the puppet loses its arm, but the performers don’t stop the presentation.
Instead, they continue operating Jack as the show moves forward.
DisneyWorldTom joked about the situation on Instagram, writing, “The show must go on, even when the Pumpkin King loses an arm!”
Despite the unusual problem, the fireworks continued as planned.
Disney Removes Jack Skellington Puppet From Fireworks Finale
While the entertainment team managed to keep the introduction going, guests noticed another change later in the performance.
Jack Skellington’s giant puppet typically returns during the finale, giving the audience one final appearance from the Pumpkin King.
This time, however, Disney didn’t bring the puppet back.
According to WDW News Today, the show switched to an alternate version of Jack Skellington for the finale.
Rather than using the physical puppet, Disney displayed the character’s shadow on Cinderella Castle.

The alternate effect allowed Jack to remain part of the performance without bringing the damaged figure back in front of guests.
DisneyWorldTom also mentioned the change in the Instagram post, referring to the alternate presentation as “B-mode Jack.”
Although the change may have surprised guests familiar with the normal version of the show, it prevented the malfunction from affecting the rest of the Halloween spectacular.
Disney Hasn’t Explained What Happened to Jack Skellington
At this point, Disney World hasn’t publicly explained why Jack Skellington’s arm detached during the performance.
It’s also unclear whether the issue involved the puppet’s mechanical components, its connections, or another part of the figure.
Disney has not announced any cancellations or changes to future performances because of the incident.
That’s important because Jack Skellington’s enormous puppet has become a major part of Magic Kingdom’s Halloween entertainment.

The character also plays a role in Disney’s holiday celebrations at Hollywood Studios through What’s This? Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along during Disney Jollywood Nights.
Whether the malfunction requires significant repairs remains to be seen.
For guests who witnessed the incident, however, the moment certainly added an unexpected twist to their Halloween evening.
And thanks to the performers who kept the show moving, the Pumpkin King’s missing arm didn’t bring Disney’s fireworks spectacular to a halt.
